I spent the last ten minutes looking at my rear axle and cannot find a vent. I know it's a Dana rear end, and my truck is 2004 4x4 w OR package, BT. Does the Dana rear axle lack a vent?

Top right on axle. Nissan may have forgotten to install yours and there is just a plug there. I heard of this happening before.
I went to Autozone, OReilley's, Ace Hardware and two other hardware stores. I could not find the part I am looking for. I took the vent plug off and had the parts guys try to match it up to a vent fitting. No such luck. Does anyone have a part number or something for a fitting for the Dana rear end, or any other suggestions?
Went to the local Toyota dealership, bought the part for 5 bucks. Installed it and feel good about not having to worry about the seals blowing out. Thanks guys
Was the stock valve redesigned on the 08+ axles and if so does is the MOD necessary?
Has any 08+ owners done this MOD?
Not sure if they have updated it, but plenty of water made it into the rear diff on my 08. I don't offroad or back down boat ramps. Water just from normal driving. Did the mod and feel much better. BTW. it was only 3 k after the dealer did the BIG(joke) 30k service. Wonder if they even looked at the diff fluid. Last oil change my local mechanic checked the diff and it looked like mud. lol.
Has anyone else had problems getting the Toyota part to fit? It appears the threads on my factory plug are slightly boogered, which leads me to believe it was cross-threaded from the factory. Nice. The Toyota part refuses to take hold and thread in. I know the threads on that are fine. I ran a 10x1 die over it to be sure.
I can't even get my 10x1 tap to take hold and freshen the threads in the axle. Anyone else run into this?
Also, there was so much gritty brown gunk on my vent, I'm sure there's no way it's actually venting. Should I see fluid when I look down the open hole? Should there be fluid right up to the hole?

no you should no see fluid, unless your truck is sloped to the right. Just look at the fill level on the Diff, the level goes to @ the bottom of the axle.

Ok, I got the fuel filter, the clamps and the fuel line tubing. What size fitting am I to look for to replace the existing vent plug. It says a 1/8"MPT, but that will not fit onto the 5/16" tubing. Any advice you guys could give on an exact part that I am looking for would be greatly appreciated. I am assuming it is a bared hose attachment with the male threads, but what size should I get?
Thanks again,
Shawn

Yeah, you could have. If the check valve works, the rear axle heats up and the one-way OEM check valve vents. But when it cools down, the rear axle can be at negative pressure to ambient, and the check valve doesn't allow that to equalize, so it may suck the axle seals in, causing a leak. I just recalled people posting about hearing air sucking in when they pulled the OEM check valve. So I amended my post.
