I'm thinking about installing a plow on my 2006 Titan king cab SE. Although plowing will be a great form of income, I'm worried that plowing might damage the truck significantly. I've been hearing things from both sides of the fence which makes the decision even harder.
Has anyone used their Titan to plow? If so, how often?
What kind of damage have you realized due to plowing? Was the damage costly?
Does plowing on the Titan tend to target specific areas of the truck?
Do you recommend I use a plow?
Any help or insight will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I wouldn't do it with a Titan, plows are HARD on the frame and I've heard a number of stories where people plowed with half-ton trucks and tweaked their frames pretty good. That would be my biggest concern, but plowing is also really hard on the drivetrain in general. Plowing your driveway? I'd say ok but be gentle. Plowing for income? Forget it. You'll tear the truck up.
From the manual:

WARNING
Do not use this vehicle for snowplowing.
Installing a snowplow may affect vehicle
handling. This may cause the driver to lose
control of the vehicle and could result in
serious vehicle damage or personal injury.

They guy that plows my driveway was using an F150 4x4 for alot of heavy plowing. He had to have most of the drive train replaced or rebuilt in a two year period.
I would plow with the Titan, but not commericially. There are some commercial plowers on plowsite.com that have had good service with their Titans.
If I was going to do it I would add front coils from a 08+ long bed or maybe even the heavier ProX4 springs. Add Timbrens to the front as well. Plow in low range when possible. Boss and Snoway make good plows for the Titan. I like the way the Snoway mounts better (you can Google the installation instructions for various plow makers and look at them).
Plowing, especially commercially, is a good way to tear the wholy crap out of your drivetrain, especially if you put another driver in the seat. I have known many people that had personal plow vehicles and never toasted their drive trains in many years. Yes, they had a U-joint torn up hear or there, but they drove really gentle. It's not analogous to pushing snow across a long parking lot at 20 mph or more and then backing up real quick to do it again.

I use a LITTLE lite duty Fisher Homesteader 7'4". The only other plows I'd consider for the Titan are the SnoWay 22 or the Boss Sport Duty (but use Timbrens). Actually, use Timbrens on any plow if you're going to use it as a plow truck, they certainly help preserve your front end.
I only plow 3 driveways which are all about 100+ yards and it pushes right through, cuts clean, stacks 6+ feet. BUT, if I was to plow accounts both residential and commercial, I'd use a Chevy 2500HD or a Ford F250....with a much larger plow! Or get a beater and smash the piss outta it!!!

I have an '05 with 64,000 miles and I've plowed with it for the last two winters. I have a 7'6" Boss poly plow and although I don't have many commercial accounts, It gets plenty of use here in the Maine winters!!! I haven't had any trouble whatsoever. No frame damage/twist....no drivetrain issues either. The only thing I had to replace was the front shocks last year, but that may have been from normal useage. I wouldn't do it with a mint condition truck, but mine's a work vehicle an as such, it works 12 months every year.
I used to plow years ago, and I would not recommend doing it commercially in a half ton. And especially not in the beautiful Titan. Maybe for your own house. Plowing is very tough on the tranny and the rest of the drivetrain. I have used my T parttime for work the last 4 years and regret it. Too many scratches, scrapes, nicks, etc.

I have a friend who plows and one bad repair or accident and it turns out not being very profitable at all. Every winter he has at least an accident either not seeing something because of the snow of somebody trying to get around him and backs up into him. Not to mention here you need to have plowers insurance and if you plow for the state you have to pay tax on any income you make from it. So in reality it could turn out being more of a headache.
Tried to watch the vid....could only handle about 90 seconds of that nasty music...I strongly dis-like CW music ( I don't like to use the word "hate")
CW= "Cry'n & Whine'n"...
I wouldn't plow with a 1/2 ton truck...and just because somebody else has doesn't mean it's good for the truck...

I would not do it commercially. One thing I'm seeing in that vid is where he puts the plow down and drives in Reverse to get the snow away from vehicles and structures. There have been a couple guys blowout their rear diffs by using Reverse while trying to recover a stuck vehicle. I would guess that habit might be a time bomb waiting for him. I'd get at least a 3/4-ton that says it can handle a plow if I were doing more than mine and my family's driveways.
I've plowed in f-350's and the like and thought about buying for the Titan to do my light work.
the more I thought about it the less I wanted to tear up my truck.
I think the titan is very capable for plowing but at the same time I can't justify burning the truck up. plowing beats the hell out of the chassis and drive train... and sometimes it was nice having the ability to manually lock or unlock the front dif...
