I would go with the Nissan filter. OEM filters typically have backflow valving that prevents pressure loss in the oil system.....this means that the oil doesn't drain out of the filter and back into the motor. This is an advantage because the oil system stays primed and upon starting oil doesn't need to be pumped to re-fill the system and filter.....thus the engine see's recirculating oil instantly and stays better lubricated leading to less friction and longer life.
Some of the aftermarket filters don't have this valve technology.

Very good point Memphis4X4. It is for that very reason that when I change filters I fill the new one up with oil before I screw it on.

Howzit Everyone,
Although I have been reading all the posts on this forum since the beginning this is my first post. Anyway I am from Hawaii and I just purchased an oil filter from the dealership where I purchased my Titan and the one I got is
pn:15208-9E000. Also they included copper washer which costed an additional $1.00. I asked what the washer was for and they said it was for the bolt? I didn't want to question any further and just figured I'll see it when I take the filter off. Anyone interested in knowing if there is an Amsoil oil filter available? I'm about to go down and pickup some Amsoil synthetic.

The copper washer is NOT for the filter but for the drain plug bolt. When you remove the bolt to drain the oil toss the old washer and use a new one...gives a better seal.

Thanks dman. Looking forward to the fist oil change!
I changed my oil/filter at 800 miles and when I went to purchase a filter from the dealer, they gave me the 65F. I called the service department just before I changed the oil and he said that the 65F was the replacment part for the 9E and that it was the same one used on the Murano/Frontier/Pathfinder.
I think this may be a cost-cutting move by using the same filter for several vehicles.
Went to get an oil filter, and the gave me the 15208-9E000. I asked about the other one, and he said that would work too, it's just a little smaller. He said Nissan was making them to fit in tighter places for newer vehicles, and it would work with no problems on the Titan. He said it was just 1/2 inch shorter, but that was the only difference. He did say the correct part number for the oil filter is the 9E. Take his information for what it's worth...
When i did my first oil change at 1,000, I now have 3300 i crawled under the truck before I went to my Nissan Dealer to buy a new filter. The filter from the factory was the 9E. So, when I went to the my Nissan parts dept. I didnt even mention I had a Titan, I just asked for a 9E filter.
all, please be wary of using "any" aftermarket filter on your Titans. There have been numerous tests, on another site I frequent quite often, that have shown that the quality control aspect on a lot of aftermarket filters just isn't there. Such as poorly designed and leaking anti-drainback valves, separating filter media, not enough filter media, low out-put pressure (the Mobil 1 and Pureone outputs were almost half the psi and what went in, can you say oil starvation!!), etc. etc.
For the $5 that Nissan charges for their filters and the peace of mind that goes with using a Nissan oil filter, I can't imagine using anything else. Look at it this way, you want the filter to trap as much junk as it can, but you don't want it to offer so much resistance that it's lowering your oil pressure on the output side of the filter. They all will have a little drop because of the resistance created from the filter media, but do you want half??? So it's a trade-off, high flow and good filtering, or low flow and great filtering. You pick......For me it will most certainly be the Nissan oil filter and Chevron Supreme oil changed hot and often....
By the way I just picked up 2 Nissan oil filters on Wednesday and they both are the 9E filters.
Jetforeman,
I noticed you mentioned "changing oil hot".
Any particular reason for changing it hot over cold besides it being a little more free-flowing?
I ALWAYS do my own oil changes. I'll wait for a Saturday morning, drain the oil till it's barely dripping, and continue on...
