XM Radio

Hey Guys,

I was doing some digging and found a website that sells the XM radio for the Armada as well as other Nissans and Infiniti for $295.00. If this kit will work for the Armada, it should work for the Titan right?

It should. But that is just the tuner. The good thingn about that is you can buy your own antenna (make sure it's the 2 lead one, not the one lead one).

Jamie I'm sure could match that price as well. Maybe even beat it.

Yes, jamies price is for the tuner, antenna and mounting bracket. The other price is just for the tuner.

The antenna is around $80, and the bracket is only a few dollars. So, I know Jamie should be able to meet or beat the price on the other web page. I purchased just the tuner from him, bought a micro antenna from Crutchfield and didn't use the mounting bracket.

I just looked on that website and it clearly says that "Installation of the Satellite Radio requires the addition of a separate antenna, which is INCLUDED in each kit".
Also I went on www.nissanpartspeople.com where they have part numbers and ARMADA part matched TITAN part.
So, if antenna is included that price is really good($322.62 including shipping)and I will order my kit from them.Thank You.

I apologize.. I read it as "not included.." just my ADD I guess...LOL!

It's most likely a different antenna as well. Why they would charge so much for the big ugly window antenna for the Titan kit, I don't know. Mine is the size of a half dollar (squared) stacked maybe 3 high. That's a 29.99 antenna... too bad you need the adaptor to convert from 1 to 2 leads which is another 20 bucks or so.

Here's a question, is XM worth it? Living in ATL we have pretty decent local radio and the longest haul I'll have is seven hours to Virginia International Raceway in May. The rest of the trips are around the four hour mark. With CD's and also an iPod plugged into the Aux port with tons of music is an XM system worth the investement or is it just a nice option for when you get tired of all the other music?

I am in the Atlanta area too and love the XM. I just get tired of all the stinkin commercials on the radio. I didn't get the Titan XM. I have the Delphi Skyfi XM. It can move from vehicle to vehicle. That way if we need to take the wife's van somewhere we can just move it over. It is not that big so the footprint is small but it is external to the system in the truck so that may be an issue for some. Love the XM though.

BVStone has posted his alternative install instructions in another thread on this forum. IMHO they are alot better than Nissan's for the following reasons:

1. No removal of BCM or accelerator panel.

2. less obtrusive antenna mounted on roof through third brake light opening.

3. no ripping up of carpet.

So I would suggest that you compare the standard nissan kit install instructions (also posted as a .pdf on this forum) with BVStone's instructions before deciding.

What shows on the NAV system?

I am trying to decide between the Delphi add on and the Nissan kit. Really wanted it to be Nissan, but with the price and install hassle am thinking the Delphi would be the way to go.

Especially since the Delphi allows you to remove channels you don't want (so when you seek it only goes through channels you like). Does the Nissan do this?

Almost wish I had bought a dodge (ok, not really) but they had a free lifetime subscription and it was built in. Sigh.

Thumbs up if you don't mind the "add-on", go for it!!

In my Frontier, I bought an aftermarket Sirius compatible head unit and loved it. Moved up to the Titan and quickly learned AFTER THE FACT that my my truck was not "pre-wired" for satellite - it took the dealership/Nissan/XM 4 weeks to figure out what I needed - in the mean time I'm listening to commercials and not liking it. So...I put in a Sirius portable tuner and mount (SIR-PNP2/SIR-CK1) on my dash (the pocket above the stereo) and it drove me nuts!! Particulalry, the image in the rear view mirror of the unit reflecting in the rear window while driving at night is less than optimal - the Titan factory stereo does this as well but it is not as pronounced. But what I did love about the unit (and not about Nissan's) is the following...

Complete scrolling text in multiple formats - The Titan factory unit does not scroll text, limits it to 1 line and truncates everything after 7 or 8 characters. Lousy design.

30 presets plus the benefit of your trucks presets (48 total). The factory rig only allows 18 total (foolish me, I thought the 18 could be applied to each AM/FM/XM when I was looking at the truck - another short change.

As you mentioned, the adding and deleting of stations - in essence, this gives you the ability to have unlimited "pre-sets" if you only include those channels you want to see in the first place.

It's portable!! Let your wife (or husband) use it for the week (say that about your truck!)

With Sirius, you can pay a full year up front - XM does not have a 1 yr plan, but rather monthly or more than 1 year.

I could go on, but those are the highlights. For me it came down to having that "cheesy" look about my new ride - maybe there were better looking units than Sirius', but I do crave the integration.

If you don't mind the "add-on", the benefits clearly outweigh (to me) the factory unit. Honestly, I think the whole XM deal with the Titan was BS and then after they did deliver, it's a lower end unit with virtually no features other than the capability to produce satellite music (can you tell that I'm a little pissed about the no-text-scrolling "feature" of XM's Titan unit - it really rboils my blood)

Have a nice day.

I'm with NewEnglanTitan on the portable units. If you can stand the extra piece of equipment it really is nice to be able to move it to another vehicle. I had Sirius in my last car and loved the no commercials. Like NewEnglandTitan I found that the head unit was too big when looking for a place in the Titan. I just sold the Sirius unit and bought the XM Delphi Skyfi unit. Much smaller and as a bonus the screen is orange so the colors math at night. Also, I founs the sound quality to be much better with the XM than the Sirius. In the Sirius unit you could really here the digital compression in the stream especially with the highs. Much, much better with the XM, and cheaper monthly subscription too. My Tiatn is a 4x2 so I mounted the unit to the punch out where the 4x4 controls are on the 4x4 trucks. That way, if I decide to dump the unit in the future, all I have to do is replace the punchout. Here's a picture.

Is the tennis ball part of the antenna or what? Seriously, what is the antenna and where do you put it?

I knew I was gonna catch hell about the tennis ball. I was going to crop it out but didn't take the time. Hey I admit it. My last truck was an S-10 and not a problem at all to get in the garage, but this is one big truck and this way I know exactly when to stop so I don't take the *** end off with the garage door.

Anyway, here are a couple pix of the antenna. It is really quite small. I took off the top breaklight assembly and ran the wire in through the opening and above the head liner to get inside the truck.
