I don't have any answers to your questions but I am interested in your experience using the VPP program. I have looked over Nissan's web sight
but frankly find it confusing as to what price you actually get. Could you please give some feedback on your experience and by the way congratulations on your new truck.

Well in theory the VPP is good as long as you're pretty sure the car/truck is going for AT or Above invoice. I found the invoice price for the truck and factory options on the web to be accurate. If your're looking at a lime green minivan with 200 test drive miles on it the VPP could cost you. You're better off rolling up your sleeves, packing a lunch and negotiating.
Regarding my Titan , I wanted a specific color (silver) LE KC Big tow, Off road WITH E-locker, and side bags. So in my case it works out to a bit UNDER invoice and I get exactly what I want. No Hassle.
Now having said that it's not totally accurate. You'll find some dealers will not want to special order a vehicle for you because the VPP profit is low (or basic). I've heard "Oh that's a allocated color, E-locker is allocated, takes 3 months etc. etc.
I ended up with a good (and local) dealer. Sat down, Said I was VPP, this is exactly what I want, no exceptions - you must order it - Yes or NO. They said yes, our #'s and calculations jived- done deal.
Well I found a local dealer willing to Factory Order a Titan with Off Road and locker on a VPP program. Dealer said around 45 days give or take.
Just to keep things honest, those of you who ordered what info did you get as the process proceeded and when did you get it ???
So I sign the dotted line , when should I be able to see
the dealers order to the factory?
The Vin #
Build date
ETA
I just want to be able to tell if the deal is falling off the tracks.
here is exactly what you are looking for. ask your dealer to send/email you a copy like my dealer did for me.

ask for dan!
Dealers have a specific amount of time each month to place factory orders. Usually, it is around the first or second week of the month.
In my case, I ordered my truck (signed on the dotted line) on Feb 21st. But the dealer order period didn't start until 3/5. So, the dealer placed the order on 3/5. That order was confirmed on 3/11. The salesman faxed me a printout of the order sheet that confirmed that the order was placed 3/5 and received/verified by the factory 3/11.
From what I understand, once the factory starts the manufacturing process, the VIN is generated as well as a ship date. The VIN/ship date will then show up on the order software, which the dealers use to track orders. As of 4/2, on my order, the VIN/ship date was not in place yet. I will probably call in the next week or so to check up. Since the order confirmation said the build month is April 04, I'd definitely expect that the VIN should show up pretty soon. I will post when I find out about the VIN/ship date.
It's a tough wait..........

My truck was ordered on March 8th. I got a call from the dealer Saturday with my VIN # so I know the truck was being built.
The dealer said the ETA shows as May 28th which seems like an awful long time to wait since the truck is probably finished and sitting at the plant waiting to ship right now. Hopefully they are underpromising and overdelivering as I go on vacation on June 18th and sure would not want to tow my 24' TT with a VW Jetta!!

CTtitan, so you got you VIN, that's good! My salesman said that he'd call as soon as they know. But you know how they are lacking sometimes when it comes to chores that don't include new sales. I'll have to give him a call and check the status. Since my order went in around the same time, my VIN should be posted very soon.
As far as del. date of 5/28/04, many on this board said that the date has a tendency to creep up (sooner), so keep your fingers crossed.

I ordered on Feb. 6th and I just got a call from the dealer that it should be here early next week so you are looking at about 10 weeks. 8-10 weeks seems to be the norm judging from the experiences of others on this discussion board.

60-90 days unless they get one coming off the line that was not claimed!

I signed my papers Dec. 19th. The order went in Jan. 7. I picked it up March 17th. The only way you'll get yours before 60 days will be if your exact truck comes off the line and your dealer can get it.
I think a few people have even gotten theirs around 55 days. I think 45 is really pushin' it.
Good choice though, this way you get exactly what you want.

Mine was ordered on 3/5. I called the dealer today. He said that he can see that it's in WIP (work in progress), so he confirmed it's being built. But he didn't have a VIN or firm date - just May, "sometime"
He said they run a report every other day and that when a VIN is assigned, it would show up on that report and that he would call me as soon as he got one. But like it was said, sometimes they're not as motivated to make "those non-sales calls". So, I'll probably follow up with him next week.
I ordered mine on April 5th and the dealer told me I should have my VIN two weeks after that and then the truck should be here two to three weeks after I get the VIN. He said "the truck should be here by the end of April but possibly beginning of May". That seems kind of fast from what I've been reading. The dealer did say it would go faster because this truck is already considered sold, even though I havent signed anything yet. I did put a 500 dollar deposit down though. Who knows...we'll see. Any comments?

There's no way they're building one that quick. My guess is that your dealer is planning on locating one already built within that time-frame.
Hope it works out for you. I'm jealous!
