Has anyone used a oil filter other than a Nissan OEM filter? Local Wal-Mart does not have a Titan in the books yet. Has other 04's, but no Titan. What filters work best?
Thanks

Took the local Havoline quick change a little time to look it up, but they found it. Sorry I can tell you the part number, but I'm just not motivated enough to remove the skid plate.
I used a Purolator oil filter in my titan. I used the PureOne part number PL14610. The regular Purolator filter is number L14610.
I have always used purolator filters and have never had any problems. You may be able to cross reference this with other manufacturers. By the way Fram is part number PH7317.
I will not be changing my oil again, however, as it was too much work for the cost involved. My local car mechanic will do an oil chang for $25, and it cost me $19 (including tax) to buy 7 quarts of oil plus a filter. Then you have to take off the little access door (Pain in *ss). Then the filter is too small for most oil wrenches and was difficult to get at, even with door open. Then you have to get rid of the old oil, which is a pain since all the auto places around me seem to never be accepting old oil. (They say there container is full or some load of BS) Sorry for the rant.

Are you kidding? Man, IMO, i think its been the easiest vehicle i've had so far to change the oil on.
if you think it's hard to change oil in the titan you should try a 2001 tacoma, man, you cant even see the oil filter let alone get a wrench on it. it seems the engineers did an excellent job on the titan even put a little trough for the oil to run into when you take the filter off.
I heard that the filter for the xterra is the same as the one on the titan, not sure about that, better check before you buy.

My 1986 Chevy Pickup was by far the easiest to get to. There was so much room in the engine compartment that you could almost stand inside it. Also, my 1989 Chevy blazer had the oil filter right under the hood, you only had to get under the vehicle to drain the oil.
I wasn't trying to say it was the most difficult to change, just that, I think the effort and money needed to change it yourself was not worth it compared to the average garage.
It's not the hassle, it's the idiots at the oil-change place, and the potential for other damage to my truck while in their "care."
I do agree with that. that's the reason for changing it myself the first time. My local mechanic doesn't do the 30min. oil change thing. I'll drop it off for a few hours to let him do it, my family has been using his garage for over 20 years!
to change my oil @ 1700 miles. They said it took the same filter as the Armada and they had it in stock. Put 50 miles on it after the change and all seemed to be well.
I am not sure I will use them for future changes but wanted to get the break-in oil out of there and they were handy and had the filter.
