Re: Evaporative Emission System leak Detected, (Large leak)

thanks for the link, ill check it out after the rain stops.

looks like most of the stuff is fairly easy to get to. i hope it's just a bad hose or bad gas cap.

Sounds like it's the evap valve that bestatchess was talking about if it's not that then maybe a tear in the hose line somewhere that's causeing it to leak

WD40, Brake cleaner etc. Some have had sucess cleaning it, might have to apply voltage to operate it while spraying cleaner thru it. Do a search and you might find more info about how other tried to clean it. The problem is no filters on the early models which allows trash to get in and not allow the valve to seal properly.

Re: Evaporative Emission System leak Detected, (Large leak)

I had the same problem and after 4 trips to the dealer (the last one with me bringing a copy of the TSB from Nissan) they finally repalced the vent control valve and magically the light has not come back on. Sucks when a dealer seems to be ignorant to their own TSBs.

Re: Evaporative Emission System leak Detected, (Large leak)

I've had the same issue for several months now. I replaced the gas cap but that didn't fix the problem. I then purchased the vent valve and finally installed it (pretty easy to do, just couldn't find the time). I then cleared the code and after driving a couple hundred miles, the SES light came back on. Could there be another reason that I am having this issue?

Also, when I was under the truck changing the valve, I noticed that there was a lot of oil all over the undercarriage in the vicinity, but the rest of the undercarriage was clean. I checked the rear end and it appears to be clean also so I don't think its gear oil. Could this be related to the valve?

Re: Evaporative Emission System leak Detected, (Large leak)

Well, I read in these forums all the time but I usually never post. I had the same problem so I replaced the gas cap. Problem solved...for about 2 weeks. Replaced the vent valve. Problem solved...for about 2 days! My new code is similar but its says my evap vent itself is bad. Probably needs to be cleaned. I post a tutorial on how to do it when I have time.

If you decide to replace the evap vent control valve, check out Rockauto.com. They have the part for about $40. I replaced mine a couple of months ago and have had no problems since.

Re: Evaporative Emission System leak Detected, (Large leak)

Having the same problem. Light came on stopped at autozone tells me its a large evap leak. Replace gas cap about 100 miles later light comes back on. I want to rescan to see what the code is calling but this light is driving me nuts!! I guess my next move is the valve and just keep my fingers crossed that it will solve my problem. From what I have read it seems to be hit and miss. I have read a bunch of guys spending over $500 to replace everything to finally fix the problem. Gotta love that I just get the truck and about 200 miles this starts.
