Windshield crack

Just got my first windshield crack by a rock on a road trip.

Anyone have one of these professionally repaired and did it disappear completely and remain good afterward? The crack didn't go all the way through.

Someone told me about a home repair kit to fill the crack, but said you can still see it.

Thanks,

I had one repaired on a old stang, and while it never spread you could still see the chip---but in two years it never spread more. If it is that serious most shops will replace the windshield, and pay your deductible so they can charge you insurance company some obscene value for the new factory windshield. This wont raise your rates as it is some weird law that insurance companies must repair faulty windshields without rate adjustments

It sucks, I know....a semi kicked up a pebble about 2 weeks ago and I got about a half dime-sized crack in my windshield. I am not worrying about it 'cause we got a law in Florida that requires our insurances companies to fix it for free

Well, I just joined the club too.

Got hit with rock yesterday on the freeway. Passenger side, right above the windhield wiper. Made a star with like 5 points.

I immediately get on the phone with Safelite and by the time I pulled off of the freeway into the parking lot, it had cracked about 10 inches. Of course it went up and over and is heading towards the middle of the drivers side, and they wont fix it if the crack is longer than a dollar bill.

I'm not going to replace it just yet...too me, nothing is as good as the factory install. I'll wait and maybe the crack will head back down.

Although, I was quoted $243 for a new windshield, and if I made an appointment that day, she was going to give me a $25 discount. Does this seem too cheap to anyone else?

I had my Titan 3 days and a rock broke my windshield. I paid $290.00 for a replacement. Whoever you get to replace it, make sure they have a factory seal before they start to work on it. There wasn't a dealer within 200 miles that had one in stock. It took them 2 weeks to locate one for me.

Good to know about the factory seal. I had a 4Runner windshield replaced and although it never leaked in 2 years it didn't look the same as the factory. Always bugged me a bit.

Guess I'll go for the windshield repair vs. the replacement as it's on the passenger side and I don't see it too much.

Cal, I had one done already, less then a 1k miles and wasn't happy to say the least. But since it was in the lower left corner, figured it was better to just get it fixed then replace the window already. I've had both done before and either option is fine as long as you go to a good glass place. I will say the fill done on this one was very good, but it was a pretty big chip and all the previous one were almost impossible to see if you didn't know what you were looking for. As long as it's not in your line of sight, I would go with the fill, plus most insurance companies will pay 100% and it only takes 15 minutes. Well good luck and thanks for the info on the seal, I'm sure we'll need it in the future.

Thanks for the info on the seal! For now, I'm going to leave it alone...see what happens.
