1. If you tell them you're going to burn a car, there's no way they'll give you the permit.
2. If you burn a car and destroy the tires, the junk yard will charge 10x as much to get it out of there. Anyone who's been to a "smash the car with a sledge hammer" party knows that.
3. 104000 miles isn't bad. Whos to say there was proper maintenance?
That first one is funny. I had a '99 Dodge Durango with the 5.2L engine (the exact same one he is complaining about) and sold it at 99,500 miles.
The only issue I had with the truck was the well known ball joint problem that all Dodge trucks have. I did have a cracked oil pan, but that was my fault as I hit a large rock on an off-road ride and didn't notice it until I had the oil changed later.
At that mileage and with the bad ball joints, the dealership still gave me $7,500 for it in trade. He would be better off to simply sell it and buy a new truck instead of trying to get Dodge to notice him.

Over 100k, and now all the sudden he's pissed, and wants a new truck. LOL What a freakin' Moron!! My 94 Mazda V6 blew up at 96k. Maybe instead of selling it for dirt cheap i should have *****ed at mazda, and set it on fire for the public too see. What a dumb ***!!!
I've been truck hunting the last month which means I have been haunting boards looking for dirt on various trucks.I haven't found anything at all damming on the 2003 Ram 1500 with the 5 speed. Can anyone point me to a site that has something bad on the Hemi+5 speed?By bad,I mean something expensive or time consuming or that leaves you on the side of the road or dangerous- like engine or Transmission or brake failure(not just warping discs the Tundras had a big problem with that-Fords also-it will piss you off,but it won't kill or strand you)-maybe something electrical??
I have located a 2wd Silver XE CC and if it still there Friday,I will buy it.The Hemi was a close second, but it is harder to find with side curtain airbags, and my general impression is that it is a bit thirstier than the XE 2wd-standard 2.94 rear end.I will expect 12.5 mpg city(our city driving is all city with maybe 5-10 big slowdowns or stops per mile-our Pilot gets just 13.8 and it is rated at 17),and maybe 16.5 mpg highway at 75.Thanks,Charlie

the hemi is a fine engine, it's fast and i don't know of any problems with. still a dodge though..
2004.5 5.9 cummins diesel engine with 600 fp of torque.
the 6.25' bed with a Crew Cab (Nissan, look into this please...)
the look, almost as good as Titan's.
and i agree with what TITAN21 said "...the hemi is a fine engine, it's fast and i don't know of any problems with. still a dodge though..."
now, i just luv my 4x4 Titan, with 14#/fp torque, who can beat that power-to-weight ratio! stock 285/70/17 rubbers.
my final drive ratio sucks up more gas, but o' what a thrillin' grunt of an acceleration!
p.s. Nissan: i also want six seats with side curtain airbags!

Go to the DTW and type in axle failures. Trucks built between Nov 2002 and sometime after 2003 have a know problem with a heat treatment on the axles flanges. There have been over a 100 cases of axle failures on the Rams that is currently being investigated by a couple of insurance companies and NHTSA.
Just to make things clearer what I mean by "axle failure" is the wheel shears off is this on NHTSA.
2003 DODGE RAM QUAD CAB 1500 4X2 VEHICLE, ABOUT 5 MONTHS SINCE BUILD AND 3 MONTHS SINCE PURCHASE WITH ABOUT 4,700 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. IN A SWERVING MANEUVER TO AVOID ANOTHER VEHICLE AT 40-45 MPH THE LEFT REAR TIRE/WHEEL ASSEMBLY SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE RESULTING IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. TIRE/WHEEL ASSEMBLY IS TO INCLUDE A BROKEN AXLE SHAFT, BROKEN BRAKE CALIPER MOUNT, BROKEN BRAKE CALIPER, BROKEN ROTOR BACK PLATE, BROKEN EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE, BROKEN BRAKE LINE, DAMAGED 20" WHEEL, AND DAMAGE TO THE AXLE SHAFT HOUSING. DEALERSHIP, AUTOWAY DODGE, IS STRONGLY URGING THE VEHICLE BE TURNED IN AS AN INSURANCE CLAIM AND BEING DIFFICULT ABOUT THE PURSUIT OF A WARRANTY CLAIM. OTHER ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT THE DAIMLER CHRYSLER MANUFACTURER REP WHO LOOKED AT THE TRUCK ON 11/11/2003, AS WELL AS DON ARMSTRONG, DC CUSTOMER SERVICE ORLANDO HAVE YIELDED MORE RELUCTANCE TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM AS WELL. SO FAR WE HAVE FOUND SOME OTHERS WHO EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR FAILURE AND WERE LIKEWISE DENIED WARRANTY COVERAGE WHILE BEING PRESSURED TO PURSUE IT AS AN INSURANCE CLAIM. ONE AT A REPORTED SPEED OF 3 MPH IN A U-TURN. *LA
2003 Dodge Ram Std Cab 1500 4x2 5.7l Vehicle, About 9,000 Miles On It, 4 Months Since Purchasing It. While Driving Down The Freeway At 75 Mph The Right Rear Tire/wheel Assembly Broke Off The Axle Shaft. The Vehicle Spun Out In The Center Median. Vehicle Substained Enough Damage To Have The Insurance Company Say It Was Totaled. The Dealership, Southpoint Dodge, Told Me To Contact Daimler Chrysler. I Put A Claim In With Dc Customer Service Only To Have It Denied. I Called Dc Corp. To Ask If I Could Get A Reason Why And See Their Report On The Subject And They Denied Me This Information.*jb
I am a tool and process engineer working for DaimlerChrysler Corporation's Detroit Axle Plant, 6700 Lynch Road, Detroit, MI and wish to absolve myself of any guilty knowledge concerning the incorrect manufacturing of Axle Shafts and subsequent dilatory and evasive tactics of management personnel in hiding the actions. The Axles are in the field of and the features involved are a safety item on the blueprints. One known failure happened recently in New Jersey. The splined end of the Axle Shaft has not been heat treated correctly. Field failures should be expected. Serious injury including possible death. Problem still occurring in manufacturing process. In a like and similar case another safety item occurring approximately the same time frame (last fall and throughout this winter) has arisen. The flange which is welded on the tube has field failure. The manufacturing facility changed it's processing from a flux core welding process to a gas-assisted process. Product was made incorrectly, shipped to assembly plants, and delivered to dealerships without a system inspect or purge. This is another safety failure on the blueprint. Again, such field failure of this item may lead to serious injury and death. No action from manufacture or public injury prevention or manufacturing processing remedy occurring. Threat of retaliatory actions for reporting this information to NHTSA highly likely. I have no interest in participating in engineering activities which may harm the public and feel I have the legal obligation to divulge any such activities to the proper authorities.
