Difficulty Opening Rear Storage Compartment

How hard is it to open your rear storage compartment?

Mine is next to impossible. I have to pull with the key (which doesn't seem too smart as I worry I'll break the key every time) and also pull really hard along the wheel well edge to get it open. Dealer service dept says it can't be improved and that it will wear in in time.

Not that big a deal, but it's awful embarrassing every time someone says "hey, what's that for?"

Mne is very easy, I say take it to a different dealer and have them take a look at it. There should be no "pulling".

When I turn the key, the door falls open, so I would say, you have a problem.

Mine does have to be slammed very hard to close, but that's a good thing, since I don't want it to leak. I tested the seal at the car wash; no leaks so far.

The latch sounds adjusted a lil too tight...open the box..you will see the latch portion on the door....2 screws and you can slide it a bit to adjust it.

Openning mine is not the problem; shutting it IS!

I had my first oil change at the dealer today and even the service manager had to slap the thing a few times to shut it. He just shook his head "no" when I asked if there's a fix!?

Anyone else with this problem?

YES! Make sure when you close you only use the very top part of the door to push or you'll get a dent in the door. Thin metal, like the hood!

To open it, turn the key and gently push in towards the truck to release the catch. To close, press firmly and squarely on the latch until it catches. Mine is very tight, but opens and closes easily in that manner. No yanking or slamming needed.

This is exactly how I get mine open, after determining it wasn't a latch problem I took the plastic cover off and noticed that when you turn the key it doesn't quite bump the plastic release far enough to the right. Pulling and yanking on it in this case will have the exact opposite effect that you want. I plan to have them to realign the release on first oil change.

When you get it open again, adjust the upper part that the latch catches on to. It hangs down into the compartment. It has 2 screw/bolts that can be adjusted. I had to diddle with mine to get it just right. Now I can close it by gently pushing the door closed with 2 fingers. I would never put anything in there you don't want wet/muddy/dusty. Most do a great job of keeping the contents untouched, but it is behind the back wheel and the seal around it won't stay great forever. I actually wish I did not have this little door there, but zip locks make the contents pretty safe.

For all those that have a problem trying to shut the door, there is an adjustment.
You first must pull the black plastic off of the door and then you will see that you can slide the latch on the door in or out to adjust it to where it will shut much easyer for you all.
I to took mine to the dealer and they said that they are all this way and they would not even look to see if it could adjusted or what. I was mad when the tech slammed it shut and put a dent in the door.
So I had to take it to a paintless dent removal place and when we took it apart I saw that we could adjust this by moving it in or out (the latch on the door itself) So just letting all thoughs that want to adjust theres know that they can be adjusted.
