I think all of these "enhancements" are possible...

although it will end up costing you the consumer some major $bling$bling$

that and they need the money to support their NASTRUCK efforts!!!

that picture and stats are from that concept tundra at the auto show, no one really knows what the new tundra will really look like yet, only speculation at this point. that truck is only a concept. tundra is still a joke.

I've seen the FTX concept in person. I think it is a very nice truck. The idea of 30mpg with that much hp is also very appealing. I do not like the interior though. It looks like the bridge of a Starfleet ship (sorry, my geek is showing). Could it be that Toyota still refuses to offer comfortable seating for 6? Can't they see that 6 passenger seating is available in EVERY OTHER FULL-SIZED TRUCK ON THE MARKET?

The only thing that interestest me is the integrated ramps and the A/C and Air compressor built in. Those things, especially the ramps (if you can use them for ATV loading) would be really nice.

But, by the time it comes out you can bet the Titan will be Gen 2 and have some nice upgrades as well.

2. 300 HP DOHC V8 Hybrid Gas-Electric Engine...cool

now IF this Toyo is also offered with a Locking axle differential traction aid then when do I get to trade in my Titan?

Real MPG with Hybrids~25%,or 17 mpg city instead of 13mpg

Toyota might imply they will have a 30mpg 5000 lb truck, and it might even have EPA numbers close to that, but it won't actually produce those numbers,if the 2004 Prius is an indicator. The Prius is rated 60 city 51 HY,but Motortrend says it delivers 40 overall on their long term test 2004 Prius, and they said"good luck getting 50 mpg hy."Now 40 mpg is spectacular, but it isn't 60.Prius owners are a little pissed about the 40;drop into one of their forums.
Motor Trend,or Car and Driver recent wrote an article and in it auto engineers said a full Hybrid should increase mpg~25%,the same increase you would get with a good Diesel. The Diesel wasn't an option in the USA because it couldn't pass some smog regs that are kicking in soon. They further suggested that a Diesel-Hybrid would give even better numbers, but soon be to in effect regs won't allow with current tech.
I figure a full sized Hybrid truck might get 16-18 mpg city(33 % increase) instead of 12-14 we actually get-pretty good, but not 30.At $3/gal and 12 vs 16 you would save ~$6000/100,000 miles and produce a lot less CO2 etc.Charlie

This sounds good on paper but I question it's practicality. The biggest problem I see is that the ramp is going to be short if it's incorporated into the tailgate. Then you add the rather tall tires on the toyota and you have a very steep angle on the ramp to push/carry heavy objects up. No thank you.

Even if you are driving an atv up the ramp you will have to give it a fair amount of gas to get it up the steep angle and then you will have to slam on the brakes to stop in a very small area. I doubt if the front wheels of the atv would touch the bed until the wheelwells. Then the question arises if the ramp(s) are even wide enough for an atv.

The ramp would have to be atleast 72" long to be practical and safe. They would also have to be super grippy and way overbuilt.

i agree, it does look like a starfleet ship (i got that inner geek too) on the inside, but the exterior is lame. it looks too... i can't describe it... just lame. like a big raccoon staring at you, i dont know. one things for sure though, as others have said by the time the new tundra comes out nissan should be debuting the new TITAN in the next model year and we know they will do somethin to keep up with toyota, if not surpass them like they did this year.

wow ugly

I like the design of the current TUNDRA.....I just didnt like the power , tow cap....I was pretty much set on getting the tundra (even over the ford 150) until i drove the titan....i think the styling on the current tundra is nice and maybe a couple of little tweeks and then add some HP and capacity would do wonders....i hope that Toy doesn't go that route as seen above and that it is only a way far off concept.

Good analysis of the new engine technology soon to be available to us in full size trucks. I know that IF Toyota can produce a full hybrid powered truck by 2005 that offers a 25% increase in fuel mileage, I will have to give it very serious consideration. Nissan has to compete in fuel mileage and they won't be doing it with electric/gas hybrids because they are seriously lacking in that technology. I am hoping they will produce a turbo-diesel powered Titan although they don't seem to be in much of a hurry to do so (a supply of cleaner diesel fuel to N. America is right around the corner). The era of cheap gasoline is over and it won't be coming back. Owning a gas eating monster is not so appealing even if it is the Titan is the best full-size truck currently available.
