Question King Cab rear door broken

Hi, All.
New to the forum, so I apologize if this has been discussed in the past. Picked up a new titan 2 weeks ago.
Today went out and someone tried to get in the rear door
on the passenger side and the handle doesn't work. It's like
child safety locks are on i.e. like nothing engages at all. From what I
understand the king cabs don't even have child locks. Anyone else
ran into this or heard of it?
Thanks for any ideas!

Looks like a trip to the dealer is in your future. It sounds as if the handle is disconnected or broken.

Sounds like a rod clip in there has let go.

Have similar issue with both passenger and driver's side rear cab doors.
Intermittent and always re-engages with a quick flip of the handle.

I had this problem on my passenger side once. When the front door is open there should be a rounded lever extending out around the rear door handle. Mine was stuck in, a few taps and it poped out and I haven't had a problem since. Hope this helps.

Sorry, this may sound like a stupid question - but quick flip of which handle?
I have tried opening it with both the handle inside and the one outside.(between the doors)
Thanks for the reply.

flipping the handle as he calls it would be the clip semi-catching the rod. His clip still has a lil bite to it. Most times you will find the clip is not crimped correctly (metal) or the rod has come out of the clip (Metal or plastic ones).

Thanks for the reply.
When the black handle between the doors does not engage the mechanism, I'll let the handle snap back into its original position. This snapping action is always sufficient to allow the handle to catch on my second try; opening the door. Sounds like your condition may be more severe.

Noticed the same problem on mine last week. I push in the 'rounded lever', let it snap back, and then I can open the back door.

I had the same problem

though it doesn't like to the degree you may have it. I found on occasion that door latch didn't engage but by opening the handle and letting spring back as hard as possible temporarily fixed the problem. A quick trip to the dealer for a couple of squirts of lube and I haven't had the problem since. The dealership did an online look up for any alerts on the problem and found none.

Good luck!

Well, I fixed it last night. I took off the handle between the doors and checked out the mechanism. Basically, a plastic piece catches a piece of metal and opens the door.
Mine had slipped over the metal and wasn't catching anything. The whole system isn't
the best I've seen, so I don't think it will be the last time I will be in there. But, it saves me a trip to the dealer for now! Thanks to everyone for the posts!

How hard was this to do? (worried I'll take the handle off and a bunch of parts will go flying)

Looks like I'll have to fix it on my own. Though intermittent, the problem has steadily gotten worse and worse.

I've taken the truck to the dealership today and of course, the doors work fine when it's there. The dealership can't reproduce the problem; have never heard of the problem; and, consequently, won't do anything about the problem.

Mine was pretty easily fixed, but i suspect there is something larger broken or disconnected as mine has done it again. Mine is not intermittent though - once it quits working that is it. Guess I will have to have it looked at when i get my oil changed next week.
