Stuck CD

I've got the Rockford Fosgate 6 CD changer and was selecting disk 5. Instead of loading the disk the display said "Press Eject". When I press eject all it does is make a continuous spinning noise. I had to pull the fuse to get it to stop.

Any thoughts on manually ejecting/extracting a disk would be greatly appreciated.

I'm saving that for "Plan B".

I just checked the service manual for you and it makes no reference on how to manually eject the disc. All it says for possible causes is a bad CD or faulty unit. Have you tried putting the fuse back in to see if maybe it reset itself?

I had the fuse out for about 20 minutes then put it back but there was no change. Whatever it's trying to do I'm afraid it will burn up the changer. I'm going to remove the dash storage compartment and see if I can gain access.

It is not difficult to pull the head unit & changer. The center dash cover is held on by clips. Grab it at one corner and pull. I start at the upper left hand corner. Once you pull the dash cover loose, you have to disconnect the connectors for the cables for the heater/AC control knobs to take the cover completely off (they all have different connectors, but you may want to tag them and make a little diagram for peace of mind as regards getting them back in the correct positions). Then you remove four screws to get the radio/changer bracket loose. Then disconnect the cables on the back (again, you may want to tag and diagram) and you can pull the whole thing out. Now once you get it out, it will not have power, so it still might not be that easy to get any stuck CD out. I recently had mine out, but didn't pay attention as to whether there would be any easy way to get the disks out once you have the changer out.

If you turn the ignition on with the cable for the passenger air bag warning light disconnected, this will cause the airbag light on the dash to flash and you will have to reset per instructions in the service manual. Not a big deal, but a minor annoyance that can be avoided.

Another thought is to put the fuse back in with the ignition off, hold down the eject button (or maybe a disk selection button) and then turn on the ignition while you are holding down the button. The concept is that it might execute the first signal signal it gets on boot, and skip the spinning or whatever it is trying to do.

I have had to yank a changer a couple of times on a different vehicle to get stuck CDs out. Once it was because I got impatient and pressed an eject button while the changer was trying to change to a different CD, and once was when somebody (not me!, I always use a Sharpie and just write on the CD) loaded a CD with a home made label that came loose and rolled up.

Because it is new and under warranty, and because the changer may have some defect that will remain even when get any stuck CD out, you may want to skip all this and just take it to the dealer.

When my Titan was delivered the salesman told me not to use CD's with the homemade labels they had been causing troubles.

Well, part of the problem is you think you have a Rockford Fosgate 6 CD changer. It's reportedly made by Panasonic. I'm also told the amplifier and subwoofer is made by Clarion.

It seems "Rockford Fosgate Powered" means the door speakers can be Rockford Fosgate and everything else is a mish-mash of Walmart items.

This may very well be the problem. Two of the disks in the player have homemade labels. This is the reason I don't want to take it to the dealer to have them fix it. If it's a bad changer great, if the problem is a homemade label gumming up the works I don't want to pay dealer service prices.

Thanks bestatchess. This is just the kind of information I was hoping for.

Thanks again. The dash comes apart just as you described and disconnecting the wiring was a breeze.

The problem was a homemade label jammed in the changer. The operation was a success but the patient died. The player is now unresponsive. The good news is I have the use of my radio again. For the price of a Sharpie I ruined my changer. Maybe its time for an MP3 player.
