I have just over 1300 miles. I figured my mileage at each fillup. Now, I did full tanks the first and second fillup, and then I have just topped it off at various points since anxious to calculate. If I recall, it has been something like this:
fillup# / results
1. 10.8 (figured it was new and tight)
2. 11 (still new, good acceleration)
3. 10.9 (maybe a pattern?)
4. 13.2* (170 freeway miles experimental trip)
5. 9.8 (purposeful heavy pedal enjoyment)
6. 8.2 WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED!!!!????
I figured driving aggressive might at worst get me 10 MPG but I was wrong. I just want to know how people are getting 16-18. Is my perception of easy going driving (how I drove the first couple of tanks) way out of tune with reality?
Has anyone else gotten such poor mileage? If so, how are you driving?
I am wondering, could the same truck that gets 16 plus mpg (as many of you have reported) get 10 or less just by adjusting driving habits?
Is there any hope for my truck (with proper foot control) to get me 16+ MPG????
Maybe the tire shop stole gas from my tank when they kept my truck overnight...
The worst we have ever seen in the Armada is having it in all wheel drive mode and driving it in the winter - 10.5mpg. The best we have gotten so far is 16.5mpg. I am switching from Mobil 1 0w-30 to Amsoil 0w-30 to see if there is any increase. Typically when we tow our boat through the Ozark mountains we get right around 13mpg. Not bad, since the best my 99 F150 XLT 4x4 with the 5.4L would ever get was 13mpg on all highway without towing anything. We get typically get 14-16mpg city/highway mix with the Armada. This is not bad at all for the size and weight that the Armada has to move around. I know several Ford and Chevy owners that would love to get 14-16 out of their trucks in mix driving. Our Armada currently has 12k miles on it. With all the other Nissans I have owned, 6 total - After 15-20K is usually when the gas mileage get's it's best.

I got 22 mpg recently on my XE KC 2WD using cruise control on relatively flat run from branson, mo. to evansville, indiana. 42 pounds of air in the tires. stock exhaust, no bedcover, and only used air the last 50 miles. so, I think some is majorly wrong with your truck. Are your tires taller than stock? what terrain are you driving in?
Mine are consistently between 10.5 and 12.0. Only one tank on the plus side of 12.0.
VERY, VERY, Conservative driving as well which is frustrating.
I had one tank of long hwy miles, and topped it off to check it. 11.5 on that trip.
It seems either you have one that will do 16 or better, or you get one that sucks gas like yours and mine do. I don't expect mine to get better. Instead, I'm driving the wife's car half the time now.

juma
All with stock tires, proper inflation, SoCal flat terrain.
Having just changed the wheels/tires, I topped it off last night to begin monitoring MPG again.
The dealer said they would check tire pressure and were vague about anything else. I was hoping they would tell me about some possibilty of a sensor adjustment or muffler bearing upgrade etc...
...Maybe the tire shop stole gas from my tank when they kept my truck overnight...
Might I ask why your new truck of only 1300 miles was at a tire shop?
Have you checked the odometer on a measured mile?
Eliminate as many variables as you can before you take it to the dealer.
Fill-up at the same station and if possible use the same pump.
Don't 'top-off'. When the handle clicks off that's it. Do that everytime unless something like a kid jumping around inside the cab caused a premature shutoff.
Document so they can't point to anything except the truck itself.

I have just over 1400 miles on my new Titan, and in 5 tanks of gas, I am consistently getting between 16 - 17 mpg - to & from work.
I drove from seattle to LA 2 weeks ago and got 12 miles per towing 2 ATV's and 2 kids in the back seat and only got 12-13 mpg. I thought that due to the tow, my mpg sucked. When I got back, I had nothing on the bed and just myself in the front, work and home commute and i got the mpg. So, I am sorry I cant help you there. I am asking the same questions.
Have about 8000 miles and get 15 average in town pulling trailer and averaged 17 on couple hwy trips.
bubba, i would have my truck looked at. At 10-11 mpg your only getting about 240 miles to the tank. On my second tank, i was able to get 315 miles before i filled up and put 22.5 gallons in. this, my third tank, i am at 150 miles and am between 1/2 and 3/4 tank -- all city -- with VERY light foot. my guess is you have been having a ton of fun in your new truck or some mechanical reason your truck is wasting fuel. final note -- i try to keep the rpms under or around 2000. I know it aint fun, but going to the pump and charging 50 bucks for a tank aint either.... I do like to have my fun but lately i have been restraining myself..... jer
I just filled up. took 11.7 gallans and i was at 151 miles. So 12.9 of all city driving, and ny no means have i been taking it easy. I'm not reaming the piss out of it all the time but i do have it to 4000 rpms pretty often. Its a se kc with big tow and off road.
