some loser keyed me titan!

i went to the improv down here in irvine, CA. the show was great, carlos mencia is funny as hell. but when i got to my car i saw a wavy scratch mark...the telltale sign of being keyed. ugh, now i gotta find out how much it'll cost to fix the @!#!@#!@#!!!
someone at work recommended using the touch up paint and some stuff called "quick clear" or something. but i think the scratch is too deep for touch up paint to help any.

I had a previous truck Keyed. Took it into the stealership to have repaired. Cost $700, I paid $100 and my insurance $600.

What should be done depends on how deep is the scratch?

A. in the clear coat

B. in the color

C. in the primer

D. to the metal

well, on the rear passenger door it's a fairly light scratch, so it's in the clear coat on that section. but most of it is deep enough to see a beige color, so i'm guessing it's in the primer. i'll post a pic in a day or 2.

If it is just in the clear coat you might try Meguiars ScratchX. I have used that with success on other vehicles. 3M makes a zillion different things also and if you knew which one to pick would probably also work for a scratch in the clear coat.

Also, a good detailer can clean alot of things up with wet sanding & buffing, but you need to find a good one, not somebody who would like to learn on your truck.

If it is through the clear coat & color coat into the primer it will be difficult to make it look decent without taking it to a shop on a long scratch, as it involves stripping wax, wet sanding, color touch up paint, clear coat, wet sanding, rubbing compound and then rewax with some curing time in between. If it is through or all most through the primer then you need to add in the primer step.
