Tonneau Cover With Utilitrack - Plywood?

I have checked everyone out. They either don't work, or want you to remove your utilitrac. I need one quickly, am thinking of just cutting two sheets of plywood and putting them in the track itself. Painted black wouldn't be the greatest, but better then nothing for the next six months...

Am I crazy????

Plywood

Innovative and effective. May try that myself.

Wonder if the (fiberglass) corrugated roofing material could be made to slide into the tracks? Maybe too thick though.

The Chevy Avalanche pannels are a super design. That would be my ideal solution.

yes, you're crazy! J/K

I don't think I could put plywood in my Titan. The tackiness would just drive me nuts.

Truxedo makes a tonneau for the Titan, as does ARE - so you have a choice of soft or hard at this point.

ok heres my take on this and do with it what you will. i have thought about a great way to do this. first i took the measurements off my crew cab bed from the middle of the utilitrack channels from front/back and side/side and they are ~65" and 62.25" respectively. now if you cut two pieces of 1/2" plywood 4x8 sheets one 32" and one 33" by 62.25 then you would have a two piece solid tonneau. now before you start typing a response sayin how stupid that is, keep reading. i know that that will not be water tight so for a fix i thought that you could use some black vinyl and spray adhesive and attach it to each piece separately. now imagine this, you put the first piece in and then the second and close the bed. the vinyl between the two pieces is being pushed together and will make a nice seal. now, i know that this will not be water tight but it will offer some element protection as well as some security for the items in the bed. the only way to get the tonneau out will be to unlock and lower the tailgate. of course, regardless of how good your tonneau is (fiberglass, wood, etc...) if somebody wants to steal something bad enough, nothing will stop them.

flame on

I installed the Truxedo Lo-Profile this past weekend and it worked easily with the Utilitrak. I know others have posted about this cover, and I've seen lots of pics of some very nice hard covers as well. There are many non-plywood choices out there!

Good Luck.

I want a folding or roll up cover though, I don't like the giant one piece. Makes your bed useless for anything but small cargo. The plywood, cheesy as it is, could be easily slid out to handle bigger cargo. Plus it doesn't cost near $1,000. If foldacover could get their cover together I would be there with cash. Oh well. I'll take another look. This isn't a permenant solution, but I'm running away from home and need some cargo cover...

It has been posted before, this might work for you. Seems like a "Hard" soft cover. Not quite a roll up. Weighs only 30#. I had thought about it before I ordered my Roll Bak.
Good luck

The Truxedo is a roll up cover.

Reply from Peragon:

We do make a cover for your Nissan Titan King Cab (NT-SB). It will not work with the UtiliTrac system. There is a wait time of 6 weeks right now, and we will not bill your credit card until the day your cover ships. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

As for the Truxedo, how exactly is this more watertight or secure then a hefty bag? Except of course after some jackass has sliced it, you get to buy another one. And of course the cost of the first compared to hefty bags is high. With plywood would not remove without the tailgate being lowerd, and probably harder to jump through then most roll up covers. (1/2 plywood vs. thin aluminum) I agree it will sag, but not permenant (hopefully).

The utilitrac was good idea, but they should have recessed it under the bed lip, and they should have made the tie downs and all the other parts not so easy to steal...seems if you had to slid it out at the end to get it off, and you couldn't when the gate was up, would have solved some problems.

I am looking at a cover made by Gaylord called the "Butterfly".
They say they are working on the design that is compatible with the ulility bed option.

It provides full access to either side yet appears to be strong.
