I currently drive a 2000 Tundra SR5 Access Cab 4WD, and am seriously considering the new Titan. I need "more truck" for pulling my 24' tow trailer (about 5100 lbs loaded). I didn't think I wanted the Crew Cab, but with all the interior room for stashing stuff maybe I do. I rarely would need the larger bed of the King Cab.
The options I'm considering are:
Popular package with power captain chairs
Big Tow package
The local dealer has a SE Crew Cab 4WD (Smoke color) with those options, plus the Off Road Package. I don't really "need" the Off Road Package, but I do like the foglights, slid plates, and wheels.
MSRP is $33580 and they gave me a price of $30979.
So what do you think? Is this a decent price? And, what should I get for my trade?
(2000 Tundra SR5 Access Cab 4WD, 36000 miles, spray-in bedliner, Leer canopy.)
I've read most of the messages on this forum, so I'm aware of some of the common problems like brake rotor warp, radio reception, dash squeaks, etc.

Thanks for any and all advice.

You may be able to get a better price then that. Do some research on Kelly Blue Book, edmunds.com, or costco.com. You should get the offroad package, the tires and the skid are nice. The only downfall of the tires are that they are not LT rated. You should have LT tires if you are going to tow anything with any weight. i.e. travel trailer, big boat, etc.
Good Luck let us know what you decide on.

I checked the KBB invoice price and the $30979 price the dealer offered to sell for it $900 over invoice, so perhaps there is more room for negotiation. Anybody have any luck on getting a "discount" price on extended warranties?
Thanks, Ken
If you don't really need the crew cab for extra passangers i'd go with the king cab. Still has plenty of storage space, tolarable conditions for 4 passengers. Plus you could get the bed pkg and still be under that price.
Not sure of your location, but if you have a Carmax near you, get an appraisal for your Tundra there. I sold my car to Carmax when I bought the Titan, and they paid me $200 over KBB. Try that at a dealer and they just laught at you; 'KBB is a fantasy' etc. Also, the whole thing only took 45 minutes, and was very much hassle-free.
I have a CC with most of the options you are looking for, and so far I love it. Mine didn't come with the step bars, that is definitely an option you want to get if you have shorties or elderly people riding with you.
Also (and you probably realize this), the 'common' problems really aren't very common at all. It just looks that way because most posters here only post when they need help with issues. Other than the radio issue, I have had no problems with my truck so far (1200 miles). I love the Titan!
As far as price: here around Atlanta you can buy a Titan at invoice or close to it. Same probably goes for your location.
One more thing: Did I mention I love this truck?
Gotta go now; have to look out my office window and admire my truck

Ken,
I traded my 2000 Tundra SR-5 Access Cab on a Titan LE CC with Big Tow and Off Road, floor mats and splash guards. To give you an idea where you should be:
I paid invoice ($32,7-- straight off KBB.com) and got 14K on trade for my Tundra with 82K on it. Go for invoice. Don't mess around with X dollars off MSRP - that's just to make you "think" you have a good price. MSRP is this fantasy land that dealers like to live in.
Hope this helps.
Half Shovel
PS - don't sweat the small problems Titan owners are having. I don't think they're any worse than the early Tundra days. My early production Tundra shed its fair share of defective parts.
Titan Ken,I had a 2001 LTD 2WD Tundra. It was a great truck,no problems. The Titan(XE KC),is a lot more fun than the Tundra;KC back seat is much more tolerable than the AC back seat.An adult can easily ride for 30' in the Titan KC Back seat,in the Tundra-well,you know. The Titan has a lot less sway, but the Tundra is a bit better on expansion joints. The Tundra does better in city mpg-13.8 vs 12,but the Titan gets better hy mpg at 73 mph 19 vs 17.5.
Surprisingly, considering it is a bigger truck, the Titan has a much lower step in than the Tundra. The Tundra needed tube steps, but I'm fine without them on the Titan(saves $300 ,and looks cleaner)You won't regret the Titan.Luck,Charlie
