Fuel System Cleaners

This is my first Nissan vehicle, and was looking through the owners manual (becuase I couldn't get enough of my new truck!) I noticed that Nissan does not recommend putting any fuel system cleaners such as Techron into the truck. I use this on my other 2 vehicles at each oil change, and was hoping you guys may shed a little light on this subject.

I was wondering about that and also the absence of a readily changeable fuel filter.

The maintenance schedule, out to 120,000 miles, never specifies changing the fuel filter.

And I think you have to take apart something in the gas tank to get to the filter. So I guess you need to be very careful not to get some crappy gas.

Most all of owner manuals say the same thing when it comes to gas additives about they didn't reccomend it, thats so when your injectors start clogging up you can take it to them and pay $200.00 for them to clean them. I had a Frontier before this titan and used a product called Sea Foam every oil change in my gas tank it's good stuff about $6.00.

Lightbulb Some cleaners will wreck the injectors

Sub,

The reason they do this is that some cleaners will actually harm the injectors. Unfortunately Nissan doesn't tell us what chemicals to check for in the cleaners, so, yes, about every 50-60,000 miles you might have to get yours cleaned. My local shop charges $60 for this, so it's obviously not a big deal.

What would be a worse thing is to go using something bad for the injectors. The old fashioned way? Shoot in a tank of Super (gasp-the price-my heart!) every so often. There are fuel system cleaners in the expensive fuels that aren't in the less-expensive grades.
