'05 Titan?

I am currently researching both the '04 Titan and the '04 F-150 to replace my current '99 F-150 SuperCab XLT 2wd. I have spent a good deal of time browsing both this board as well as F-150online for details on these vehicles. I'm leaning heavily toward the Titan as it looks to be superior, but I have a few questions regarding my potential purchase:

~ When will the '05 model changeover occur? For the F-150, this normal occurs in the late June / early July timeframe. I ordered my '99 F-150 in mid July '98 and received it in mid Sept. I am planning on ordering either truck within the next month hence my question. If I go the F-150 route, I would be purchasing an '05.
~ What modifications / updates are planned for the '05 model? That is, does anybody have any inside information they would like to share?
~ I have seen mention that it is not possible to order exactly the truck you want directly from the factory. I would like to order a Smoke/Black SE CC 4wd with only the Big Tow, Bedliner, and Floor Mats. Can I order a truck with just these options?
~ Do you need to put down any cash to order a Titan? With the F-150, I just told the dealer what I wanted and he order it up without asking for a deposit.

Last week, I took a XE CC 4wd with the OR package for a quick test drive and was impressed with the power and interior size. I was planning on asking the dealer the above questions, but I thought I would check here first.

Thanks in advance,

Honestly, i can't really think of anything else i would want in a truck. Maybe a better radio?

I read somewhere that they were working on a Diesel running Titan but that may not be for the '05 model.

You can check the Nissan webpage and check which dealers have the kind of truck you're looking for.

With SE you have to get Utility B pk to get liner

I think you have to get the Utility Bed PK ($900 msrp)in the SE to get the spray in bedliner. To get The Utility bed PK you also have to get the PP or RockF PK($900 OR $1400) also(and the crummy radio-I think).
Solution
1)Get an LE it comes stock with the spray in bedliner. You can get a great deal on an LE now.Unfortunately I think you get the crummy radio with LE's.Someone can correct me on the radio, but I think all LE's get the Rockford Fos audio, which has some problems.
2)Spend $400 and get aftermarket spray in bedliner. There are some problems with the Titans spray liner. This is the better solution(for a cheapskate like me).
The Big Tow requires none of the CS_ _ _ option Bundles,so you can get it by itself..It is a real bargain at $850($738 invoice).
Luck,Charlie XE KC Red B,nice truck;the bench is a great bench,more like a bucket!!

Thanks in advance,

I sold cars for five years right after high school. I gotta tell you, if I had a vehicle come in off the truck and there was no deposit on it, and someone was on the lot looking to buy it, I'd sell it. As with so many things in life, one in the hand is worth about 20 in the bush in sales. For my own sake of mind, if I was you, I'd insist on putting down even a small deposit, just so you could claim some ownership to it.

I think the '05 changeover occurs around Oct. - so you can get the '05 models starting then or early Nov.

The stealers in my area say they charge a $500 deposit when ordering a vehicle, but you can probably get around that (if they even ask you for one at the stealerships around you, just negotiate).

I think an aftermarket spray-in liner is a better idea - I've heard about probs w/the Nissan one, and you have to get the utility-bad package if you want the factory spray-in liner (which ain't cheap).

I'm havin the same problem as you - I want the offroad and big tow packages, but don't want the Popular package or Rockford Fosgate package. I haven't confirmed that you can order just the big tow or offroad package w/o popular or RF package, but from the responses on the board, seems like you can't order them separately from the factory. I'm not interested in just the big tow package, so I apologize if I'm wrong about the bundle of big tow w/another package, but I know they bundle the offroad w/others.

Far as changes for '05 go, no one is sure. Everyone has heard a lot of rumors (power rear window, diesel engine, etc.) but you gotta go to www.nissannews.com, or call up their 800# to find out in the coming months.

Hope you choose the Titan bro! Good luck w/whatever you choose!

I too am going to do an '05 Titan. I have found no real info on what changes are coming for next year, and I suspect if there are any they will be minor.

To me I think the best change they could make for '05 is to get a handle on production and lighten up on all the restrictions when it comes to trying to get a vehicle they way you want it.

When I go to the web site and build my own, I have to make compromises in almost everything I want, because if I want this I have to have that, or I don't want that but yet I have to in order to get the other thing...

Thanks all for the quick responses! A small amount of cash (up to $500) to hold the truck wouldn't be big issue; I just didn't want to commit big dollars up front. I like the idea of an aftermarket spray-in bedliner especially if it gets me into a bare bones SE CC. I guess the only option package I really want is the big tow. All the other stuff (floor mats, splash guards, and bedliner) I can add upon delivery. Something else I'd like to see for '05 is the ability to pick your wheel on the SE/LE levels; I'd like the 6-spoke LE wheels on my SE. I'll keep an eye on the web site for any news. With an Oct changeover, it looks like I might be waiting a while to order...

I think you are overdramatizing the bedliner issue.

1 of em was me. If he doesn't wanna shell out a sh*t load of cash for the utility bed, then he can't get a factory spray-in liner. Plus, I've heard some bad things about them. That's all I said. Don't know who was makin it a big deal though.

My truck was born in November of 2003 with the spray in bedliner from Nissan.
It has been a joy to load up and go without being afraid of scratches. It's application is very even and has a flexible feel to it which minimizes sliding of objects in the bed.

Remember one thing: No manufacturer makes many changes to a full size truck design or functionality in the second year.......It is just not feasable!
The current design is going to run for AT LEAST six years.
After year 3, expect minor exterior changes(mainly grill/headlight/tail light) and some optional items become standard.

Right now Nissan is busy correcting what's wrong with the truck as it is. The R&D money is very tight due to their introduction of too many models in too little time(growing pains).

In conclusion, If you buy a 2004 you'll have negotiating power(given the state of economy/gas prices) and can be sure the 2005 is NOT going to make yours look like the LAST YEAR'S model.

Good luck,
DT

P.S. Never do the deposit thing! That's playing into the dealer's hand and puts you at a disadvantage! To get the best deal shop around and haggle on one sitting on the lot(the dealership pays Nissan interest for EVERYDAY that truck sits on their lot so that gives you the advantage------LEVERAGE IS EVERYTHING-------).
Shop towards the end of the month: 28th-31st.

If you've read the posts, Nissan figured out what the problem was, people had replacement beds supplied, so it should be solved. Heard anyone with a more recent production model complaining lately?

Going so far as to say "yeah, i'm think aftermarket is good because i've heard of the bedliner problems" is a bit of an overdramatization in my book.

Whoa whoa whoa Walker, I see you're tryin to pick on me again and jumping to conclusions. Sit for one second, and read over my posts carefully. I just read over my posts in this thread, and never did I say that quote. I said that w/the combination of him perhaps not wanting to shell out the $$ for the utility bed, and that several people have had problems, he should think about the aftermarket. Why not? I never said that the aftermarket is good b/c of bedliner problems, the aftermarket (rhino liners is the one I'm thinkin of) is good b/c its good, time has proved it. All I did was offer a suggestion, backed up w/2 reasons. I can't offer suggestions now? So before you shoot your mouth off, and come at me like that, read a little more carefully. Thanks.

BTW - Goathead, your Titan is the best lookin one on this board!
