Question why is the titan so cheap?

hello everyone. new to the forum.

i have a question, im in the market for a truck. ive narrowed my choices to either the nissan titan crew cab 4x4, 05up tacoma crew cab, or the 07up tundra double cab. but ive noticed that the titan is cheaper than the 2. why? you can find a used, low mileage titan crew cab for 15k. when the 01 tacomas are selling for the same price, while the 05up tacomas are in the 18k. are the toyotas a "better" "quality" build? do the toyotas last longer? i like both trucks, and wouldnt mind owning either one. i just want some owner's feedback, thats all. thank you.

Re: why is the titan so cheap?

your asking titan owners which one of the 3 is better? the titan of course! you will get better gas milage with the taco but ive never been a fan of the tundras personally. i have no complaints with mine for the most part. good luck on your decision

Because the other two are Toyota. I used to have a '93 4Runner. Since then, Toyota prices have skyrocketed thanks to all the soccer moms/dads. The 4Runner is now overpriced and too posh. Toyotas are only better in the eyes of Toyota owners.

I take that back. Toyotas are "better" because Toyotas are "unstoppable."

Re: why is the titan so cheap?

Fair question, and well put.

Popularity is the reason. Toyota has higher reputation than anyone, but has recently tarnished. Early Titans had some issues with Brakes, and Rear Ends, but all is addressed now. Tundras had issues too, such as tailgates, a few (a few dozen only) camshafts, etc. Tacoma is smaller, but much more popular and established truck than Tundra or Titan, with tons more aftermarket support. Excellent truck. The Mid size Trucks do not seem to save much gas over full size. But some prefer the smaller size. So, don't go on mileage too much if it has a 4.0 L Engine or something close and 4x4 running gear. I'd buy another Titan in a heartbeat! Great interior room (best in 1/2 ton class in 2006) and wonderful engine, even today.

Re: why is the titan so cheap?

just resale values and company history. older Ts were hit bad by editors just like toyota was after it had a few problems. plus, the tundra is originally 10k more than a titan w/ the same options brand new. economy doesnt help the full size market. the titan is a good truck. newer the better...if your looking for the chance of good reliability.

the taco is just on a different level. midsize isnt a fullsize. historically midsize trucks are usually more reliable and hold value better.

Re: why is the titan so cheap?

The Tacoma is sweet. I like it. I've had a Tacoma, albeit a 1999. I'm not sure on the newer Toyota's. All the older toyota's I have been around are like freight trains and can't be stopped. Me and my pops both have had Tacoma's. Like I said mine 99 and his is an 02 I think. Both over 160K+. Mine had a radiator tank bust, thats it. and I went 10k plus on oil changes lol (I was young and stupid/irresponsible), never changed the plugs or trans fluid. Truck still ran like a champ. My dad's has never had so much as a bulb blow out on his. He hasn't changed the plugs in his either. Not one single problem. My mom's toyota SUV has never had to be repaired either. However, I think newer gen Toyota's may not be as tough as Toyota really started mass producing and seems to have cut corners on safety/reliability issues. Its the Toyota image is why they are so expensive, because everyone thinks they will last forever. The Titan is a great truck, it did have some early year issues, but IMO is unbeatable at the price. My T only had close to 73K on it, only problem was I had a raditor bust on it a while back. Those are all nice trucks, but for the money, the Titan is a lot of truck for the price. TRhe Titan never really sold a lot of trucks, and with its early year issues, there just aren't as many people who want to buy them. Plus this is Nissan's first full size, while Toyota has had trucks on the road for a while.

Thanks for your response. I kind of thought the same also, but damn, popularity of a 6k difference? Wow. I'm looking towards a 05 titan. How's the reliabilty of those years?

I've driven both the titans and new tundras and the tundra is roomier n bigger, in my opinion, but the titan is easier to drive, which I like.

Re: why is the titan so cheap?

Yes the Titan ismore fun/agile then the Tundra...2005 Titan, watch the differentials, brakes, IPDM, and radiators..With a Detroit Tru-Trac, a Koyo or Stillen radiator, and a few extra IPDM relays in your center console, you'll be just great as long as you take care of it and still come out cheaper then the Toyota '

Hell you could buy and extended warranty for the Titan, and again still be cheaper then the toyota.....However, on bumpy roads, the Tundra bed looks as though its going to shake right off the back of the truck, so they aren't perfect either

Re: why is the titan so cheap?

alot has to do with the media response that is driven mostly be manufacturing dollars. Nissan does not pour a ton of money in it's full size truck promotions, Ford, Chevy, Toyota does. The media focuses on promoting the brands that funnel dollars towards them, therefore creating a hype on a certain brand that pushes market prices. The titan is as good of a truck in it's class as any, just isn't being promoted as hard.JMO

Re: why is the titan so cheap?

I would say 07 most all the problems were fixed. in 08 they added bigger breaks but i think that is it. I have an 07 which is close to turning 70,000miles and have never had a problem with it
