Ordered a truck on March 4th from local dealership, they said it would take 5-8 weeks for delivery. Well, it's nearly 12 weeks and no truck has arrived so obviously I'm tired of waiting. After the 5-8 weeks was up they said May 4, May 14th, May 24th or 25th, May 26th........today's the 28th, no truck.
I didn't put down a deposit with the dealer and haven't negotiated a price but I'm only willing to go $500 over invoice (realizing that they're in business to make money just like I am). My father has purchased 8 vehicles (GMCs) through this same dealer and only pays $500 over invoice so I'm hoping to slip in on his coattails.
I've got no idea if they'll give me the deal I want. In fact I've got a friend here in town who tried to deal with them and they wouldn't do it. He then went to a mutual friend of ours in Columbus, GA who owns a dealership and got a Smoke CC 4X4 LE for $500 over invoice. They even drove the truck from Columbus down to Panama City and picked up his trade-in for him.
I've found two comparable trucks at the dealership in Troy, AL (via Nissan's website) which is about half-way between Columbus and Panama City. I'm debating over whether or not to call my buddy in Georgia and ask if he can do a dealer trade with the Troy dealership and get me a truck. I've had a bank draft sitting in my briefcase since last Friday and it's only good for another 3 weeks.
Are you located in Panama City? If so, you aren't far from where I'm at in Enterprise, probably about a 1.5 hour drive tops. Even though I didn't purchase my truck through the dealer here, I have dealt with them and they are very helpful. Last time I was up there they had about 15 trucks on the lot. If they don't have what you want, then the Ozark and Dothan dealers are only 20minutes away from Enterprise. That makes 3 dealer's all pretty close to one another, Troy is about an hour up the road from here.
If it was myself, I would move on and check with the other dealers. The current dealer has had more than enough time to order, find, beg, borrow or steal a truck that matches your wishes.
Call them up and say thanks, but no thanks!

Go where they have the truck you want. I had the same thing happen, first they said they could have my truck in 3 days(LOL in retrospect) so we settled on a price and I gave a deposit of $500(first big mistake) 45 days go by an no truck(every week get the call that its scheduled to arrive next week) then suddenly the truck i want turns into a truck I don't want(different options) at this point I want my depsosit back and they give me a load of sh*T that they had to go out of there way to locate my truck and that the deposit is non refundable even though its not the truck I want. To make a long story short I went 45 mi. to another dealership that had the truck I wanted in there storage location(so much for F'in dealer swaps) and bought it. I never did get my deposit back, they said I could use it as a credit in their service dept., I wrote the $500 of as a loss, I was to the point that Louisville Slugger and I were gonna go make a visit to the dealership, but I figured the scum bags at Somersworth Nissan in NH were not worth it.
Moral of the story, don't give'em a dime until you get your truck, also don't get your hopes up when they say "great news its inbound and will be here in 5 days" its all B.S. there making it up.
SEANole, It sounds to me like they don't want your business very bad. Remember your the customer. I would find a place that is willing to work with you. I don't see why you shouldn't be able to get the deal you wan't. I only paid around $150 over invoice.

What would you do in this situation?
I actually ordered mine to be built since none existed configured to my specifications. I ordered from Lloyd Nissan in Panama City. I was notified two days ago that my order was being built in Canton, Missippi, but no delivery date was given. I also gave $500 deposit, but stopped payment on the check so I wouldn't be given the "non-refundable runaround". I negotiated a price for $448 over invoice before ordering. The sales staff was very helpful and direct. They even offered me a job since I had done so much homework on this purchase. I knew more than the salesman did about the Titan! I hope my delivery experience is painless.

If not I'll just ....

gnarps: I've been doing a dealership drive-by about 3 times a day for the last week. Lloyd has a Sedona King Cab XE that came in on either Tuesday or Wednesday.
gnarps,
Don't hold your breath for a delivery date. I ordered mine 4/3/04 and just got a VIN yesterday with a scheduled delivery date of 6/25/04. It wouldn't be so bad, but I found a buyer for my old truck and have been carpooling with the wife.
2% on Automotive for the state. With added county and city taxes in Enterprise and Dothan it comes to 3.25%. Should be 3% in Ozark and Troy.
WHOA!
When I buy a Titan, I'm doing it in Alabama. Holy S! Sales tax alone in LA is 8.35%, and that doesn't include title and the registration fees that have skyrocketed since that suckass governer screwed everything up. Arnold has only been in office for 8 months, so he's still in the process of fixin all sort of mistakes. Until then, I'm paying bigtime! Kinda envious!
Yeah, what a great guy. Screws so many things up, raises salaries of govt. workers when we're in a recession, and then has the balls to raise taxes on soda, gas, and vehicle registration somethin like 3x??? Then, when it looks like his *** is gettin the fat boot, he adopts a bill to give illegals drivers licenses to get the Mexican vote?? I hate that guy. Just another moron who is not willing to take responsiblity for things he did wrong. Happy that the libs in this state could look past his political party and vote for "The Governator". I could go on for days. Sorry for the rant, but you got me started with that quote.

What would you do in this situation?
Since you haven't made a deposit let alone agreed on a price you don't have a deal. Maybe they are stringing you along thinking you are not yet serious.
My suggestion would be to pick a dealer and make an old fashioned deal including an agreed on price, a deposit if an order is involved, and get it all in writing.
Good luck whatever you do. Paul
