Angry Radiator Leak

I was going to change the oil in my 4x4 CC when I noticed some green residue on the access plate of the skid plate. As I unscrewd each retaining screw, I noted some green fluid on the screws...great...coolant. I looked inside, there wasn't any active leak but evidence of a chronic one. I check the reservoir and the level is below MIN (I just drove home). The Titan is 1 month old! I am very dissatisfied. I hope that it is just a leaky hose or something. I'm just going to fill the reservoir up with some coolant and wait until Tuesday to bring it in to the dealer. Any one have any similar experience/misfortune? Any other tips until I can bring it in? Thanks in advance.

yes; don't get bent out of shape everytime you find something wrong. some of these problems you will find on the most expensive vehicles, remember this is the first year of the full size, if you can't deal with the growing pains now, and there maybe more, you just might have global explosion, so just chill, the long term satisfaction will greatly out weight this little crap.

There is a fix for it as I remember because some trucks had radiator caps that were not holding pressure or something along that line no big problem.

There is a tsb on the radiator cap I will put some of the details below.

EM04-002 NTB04-018 February 6, 2004
RADIATOR CAP INSPECTION DURING
COOLANT SYSTEM SERVICE
APPLIED VEHICLES: All 1999 and Later Vehicles
IF YOU CONFIRM:
An applied vehicle has any of the following symptoms:
• Leaking radiator
• Overheating cooling system
OR
If you removed the radiator cap for any other reason.
ACTION:
• Look for a “swollen” (enlarged) radiator cap gasket. See Figure 1a and 1b.
• An enlarged radiator cap gasket can cause the cap to not vent properly. This can result
in coolant loss and overheating.
• See the Service Procedure on page two for more details.

OK NO GOOD

First off for this kind of problem you really should determine for yourself where the leak is coming from. Clean up the areas where it is leaking start the vehicle and look for the leak look for perhaps swollen areas on your hoses or clamp areas. Check out the TSB that subtitan posted as well. Could be something as simple as that. If you find the leak but can't fix it at least you can tell the dealer where it is. And if you find the leak and can fix it that 'll put a smile on your face. If you need to see the actual TSB that subtitan is quoting go to www.nissanhelp.com and look for bulletins under Titan.

I had the same problem, resulting in the replacement of the radiator cap. Apparently some left the factory with sub-par seals. Make sure the dealer cleans your engine.

I was right the first time, the sky is falling. So I take the truck into the dealer to check out. It ain't the radiator cap! He tells me that the underside of the entire radiator is leaking! He wasn't clear whether it was a leak from the seam or through the wall of the radiator. It doesn't really matter since they need to replace the entire radiator. Since they had to special order the part (apparently none in the metro Phoenix area), I won't get it back until late Tuesday. At least they gave me a loner truck (Chevy Silverado from Enterprise car rentals with a big ugly Enterprise logo on side!)

Sorry to here it wasn't an easy fix. Hopefully you won't have the same problem with part procurement as others have. What year of Chevy is it? Give us your biased opion of the Chevy when you get some miles on it.

Sorry Subtitan, but I guess I've been reading to too two many of Sammys posts:

Here - adverb, in or at this place (location of something)

Hear - verb, to perceive or apprehend by the ear (listen)

Sorry again bro, haha!!!

Thanks for encouragement SubTitan.

As for the Chevy, it's a 2004 Silverado 1500 Extended cab 5.3 L V8 with 4x4 capability. Its their base model. It has about 6500 miles on it. So far it has been servicable. The ride is relatively smooth and it doesn't have the audible "purr" that the Titan has. The lines of view around the A column in front are better than the Titan. However, those are the only positives that come to mind for now. I find the interior ergonomics distasteful. The controls are not intuitive and accessability to the dials/knobs is bad due to poor positioning. The turning radius (this one didn't have the quadrasteer) was larger than the Titan's. Finally the overall asthetics were underwhelming.

My preliminary assessment: I want my baby Titan back!!!!

I will try to give you additional feedback on: 1) the Chevy, and 2) why God seems to hate me

If you do that, make sure you go w/someone from the TitanTalk board to tow you back when you A) get stuck, B) break an axle, or C) whole truck falls apart.
