Help,we need more results from 2wd 3.36,and 4wd 2.94.Here are the running totals,and averages
2wd 2.94 19.2 mpg 9 responses
2wd 3.36 18.4 mpg 2 responses
4wd 2.94 17.6 mpg 3 responses
4wd 3.36 16.2mpg 12 responses
Thanks,Charlie
PS I would bet that the 2.94 2wd folks are a more frugal bunch, and bought the less expensive 2wd with mpg in mind, and they drive more conservatively than 4 wd 3.36 folks. Some 4wd 3.36 guys get very close(18.2 18 17.4) to 2wd 2.94.If I were a lot lower than average,I would make sure I got a 150+ mile tank that was all highway, with very little braking;still low, maybe a sensor is off(don't know why it wouldn't set off the idiot light),or your odometer is off(my Tundra came with 265/70 16 tires, but it thought it had 245/70 16 which was stock. The factory guys gave the comp. the wrong info.Never would have figured Toyota would make such a simple goof.If your truck "thinks" it is a XE with 245/75 17 tires(31.4" diameter tire),but it is a SE or LE(with 32.6" tires, both the 18 and the 17 OR are the same height),it will give low mpg because you will have traveled farther than your odometer says-faster also..I have edited this, got it backwards the 1st time-sorry.Check miles against mile posts-at least 50 miles. If I had the 32.6" tires-all Offroad and all SE,LE should check there odometer against miles posts,if they are getting poor hy mpg.

Just got back from an 800 mile trip.
averaged 16.6 averaged at 75MPH with A/C on always.
1) 17.8
2) LE KC
3) No Big Tow and No Off Road
4) 4WD
This is pretty consistant. 60 miles round trip every day to work, 90% of it hiway, almost always 75-90 mph. I admit, I have a heavy foot, especially if a Dodge, Chevy or Ford is anywhere in sight. I'm pretty sure if I could keep it below 70 mph (a near impossibility for me) I could probably approach 20 mpg. I just love the power I have in this truck. My old Fords and GMC's just didn't have any of the "WOW" that this thing has.

I goofed above, and corrected it..It should have said ,if you have 32.6" tires(all SE,LE,and all offroad)but you truck was mis programed to think it has 31.4" tires(all XE's except offroad),you will get a falsely low mpg reading because you odometer will read low-you really traveled 103 miles, but it says 100 miles.Worth about 1/2 mpg.
Sorry,thanks,Charlie.

nursecricket,I can think of 2 ways
1)Best way, stop at a mile post on the interstate and zero your trip meter, drive to a mile post at least 50 miles away-and stop by it so you can get a good reading..If your trip mileage isn't very close-a few(2-4) tenths to 50.0,it could be off.
2)Not so good way, have someone with the same setup-tires,rear end-drive at a steady 75 mph next to you,see if you read the same. This isn't so good, for a lot of reasons.
Thinking about it more,it seems unlikely Nissan could misprogram it this way-because of the different rear ends etc,but it is worth a shot.I don't know how they read speed-from the front wheel(old way),or from the drive shaft?
Either way,it is sure worth checking with the mileposts when you get a chance.A problem with the fuel management(or even a leak, but you would smell it),or brake drag.If your way less in pure hy driving, keep looking.10-12 in true city is normal, but 13-14 in pure hy seems low.Luck,Charlie
1) 12.0 MPG Combination city and hwy (253 miles @ 21 gallons)
2) 4X2 CC SE
3) No BT, OR
4) 5500 miles
I have had my truck since 12/26/03 and MPG has not changed. Service Manager says there is nothing wrong with my truck. Mentioned Titantalk.com and 15, 16, 17 MPG others are getting, his response was and I quote..."Guys lie about 2 things, and 1 of them is MPG". I called him an idiot and walked out.
Try a "pure" hy tank.12 is about right for mainly city
bg478,thanks for the numbers.Try to get a pure(say 90%) hy tank.I got 19.6 hy(2wd XE KC),but I get just 11-12 in my regular driving, which is mainly city.He might be correct that 12 is normal for 90% city, with stop lights, stop signs, unlimited access, but it would be stunningly bad if it were interstate mpg.The mpg jumps dramatically in pure interstate,or hy driving. The folks here aren't lying, but there is no way to really correct for folks different ideas of what "city" driving is.
We are using "best tank mainly hy" because most folks can agree on what is hy.They wouldn't call driving on the CA interstates during rush hour hy driving, and zipping along HY287 in the TX Panhandle will put you thru some towns, but that is almost pure hy,despite being a state road with unlimited access. The folks on this forum are more sophisticated-vehicle wise-than the average BSer who gets "20 mpg with my 4wd Excursion".Thanks,Charlie
PS this is edited in.My 2wd Tundra 400 lbs lighter, smaller in all dimensions,65 hp less, with a sophisticated 4 valve V-8 would get just 1 mpg better city, but 1.5 mpg less hy.The Titan can get spectacular hy mpg(19.2 2wd,18.1 2wd BT,17.6 4x4 16.1 4x4 BT) these numbers are current averages of hy best tanks.A couple of 4x4 members have gotten 18-19,2wd(like your's) one got 22,most got 19+.Check pure hy for a better indication that your truck is performing "right".Fill to the 1st stop, set tripmeter, fill to 1st stop again(if you are a nitpicker use the same pump and position.
Exactly Charlie. bg478, I get between 13 and 15 in conservative city driving, so 12 wouldn't be that far off. If I drive heavy footed it will dip much lower. My exhaust system might help my numbers a bit as well. Highway I'm between 17-18, with only 2,600 miles. BTW Charlie, don't add these numbers to the running total, I already responded earlier. I'm just trying to give bg478 an idea of what would be acceptable city mpg.
