This past weekend we put on 435 miles of a mix of city and highway, and we got 17.7 mpg. It took 24.5 gal. of gas to fill the tank.
And we were stuck on the highway alot with the holiday weekend. We got off the freeway and went through some small towns with alot of 25 and 30mph driving, and alot of local driving at the cabin. At this point I'm very happy with the mpg.
There are several MPG threads but this one seemed the most logical since I have the Big Tow package....I took a trip down the highway last weekend, kept it at about 65 with AC running and got 16.5mpg (I've been getting around 14 lately with mostly city driving) and I've got about 2200 miles on her. No complaints here guys and gals, not sure where this will peak but I'm happy with these numbers.

I have had my truck since 12/26/03 and MPG has not changed. Service Manager says there is nothing wrong with my truck. Mentioned Titantalk.com and 15, 16, 17 MPG others are getting, his response was and I quote..."Guys lie about 2 things, and 1 of them is MPG". I called him an idiot and walked out.
Just looking these numbers being reported for similarly equipped vehicles I can only surmise that some of you must be leaking gas somewhere. Seriously a friend likes to tell about anothers gas mileage with a V-6 Buick at a low of 24mpg and a high of 36mpg on a trip he took a while back. I just smile and nod approvingly.
I just got back from Arizona last weekend.....rode about 1,500 miles, filled the tank 4 times, and got only 13.6 to the gallon....gas mileage for me SUCKS!!!
I'm not quite sure if there is anything or whether I can do anything about it.
I have the LE KC without the Big-Tow package but with the Banks exhaust and a Truxedo cover. I drive regularly between Richmond and Washington DC. I average between 18 and 18.7 on the highway cruising at 75 but varying between 65 and 80 with the traffic.
1) 15 Highway @ approx 75mph (only 1 fillup, 95% of my driving is City)
2) 10 City. Always 10 exactly.
2) SE, CC
3) Big Tow & Offroad
4) 4X4

Too bad current vehicle milage wasnt added to the survey.
I will be driving from Savannah to Pensacola to San Antonio to Tucson to Las Vegas and back on the 3rd-18th of July and Plan on doing it with a K&N drop in filter on the way back. Let you know my results.
Nursecrickett, how fast were you driving? Was it on cruise control? There must be a bit of up and down on that route, but still....
You are 4x4 3.36,right.The best tank average is 16.1 for that group. Now they don't get 16.1 average, they probably average 11-15 in their everyday driving.Still,if you were doing under 75mph,you should have done a bit better than 13.6.What was your best of the 4 tanks?
Current numbers
19.1 2wd 2.94
18 2wd 3.36
17.4 4x4 2.94
16.1 4x4 3.36
The middle two aren't really 'good" numbers, since they are based on just 3-5 responses, and they change a lot with just one "flyer".Charlie
Nursecrickett, thanks for your quick response.Your "best tank" mileage(13.4 vs 16.1) has really puzzled me,but I think you provided the answer. Many folks exaggerate about their mileage by saying they were doing 75 when they actually were doing 67 or so with occasional spurts to 75.
I wondered if something was "wrong" with your truck because of the 13.4,but your 10-11 in the city is about what I get with my 2.94 2WD KC in the city. The folks that get 15 mpg city, aren't doing the same city driving you are-lot of stops, redlights, short trips etc. They are probably in smaller, less traffic intense cities.
Here are my calculations that indicate that 13.4 mpg at 80mph would "equate" to 16 mpg at 70mph.
At 55mph aero drag and rolling resistance are about equal,so lets assign 1 gpm to each of these. The rolling resistance will change just a little with speed,so lets ignore it and leave it at 1.The 1 gal per mile from aero will change as the square of the speed,so
1+ 70/55X 70/55= 2.62 gallons used per mile at 70
1 + 80/55x80/55=3.11 gpm at 80
No one gets 2.62 gallons per mile(even a Hemi does better at .1 gpm),so just use the relationship(80 uses 3.11/2.62 times more fuel=1.18% more,or you can travel 2.62=3.11= just 84% as far or 13.4 miles instead
2.62/3.11x16=13.4 mpg at 80,if you get 16 mpg at 70 mph.
This is just a guess(and I probably have the arithmetic wrong),but if you drove 70 mph on cruise, you would get close to the 16 mph the others got.I did ignore the increase gas used by rolling resistance at the higher speed, but the idea is the same.Aeor drag really increases a lot as the speed .goes up.Thanks,Charlie
