Hey,let's conduct a crude survey on Highway mileage with Big Tow-or and Offroad VS no Big Tow or Offroad.
1) Just give the best MPG single fillup that was mainly hy-at least 150 miles.
2) Trim level and Model,XE,SE,LE,and KC,CC
3)Big tow,Offroad(3.36 ,or none(2.94)
4)2 wd or 4 wd
Any comments-average speed,uphill,elevation,type of gas,towing mpg,and what was towed,that sort of stuff,whatever you want really.Thanks,Charlie
1)19.6
2)XE KC
3)2.94 NO BT or OR
4)2wd
This was the 1st tank ever(odometer 40-200) on the trip home(bought it in DFW) -Dallas-New Orleans.I was doing maybe 55-70,driving pretty soft, varying the rpms and gears a bit.On the second tank (200-595) I had it on cruise 73 mph, varied rpms some got about 19.1 mpg.I was driving to get good mpg.At home in city driving I get 11.5-13 mpg.
Comments: Last highway check I ran was with only 1,000miles on odo, and the ecu wasn't reset after exhaust mods. I do however drive 85+mph highway. I'll report, hopefully, next week when I get some highway time.
from branson, MO, to evanston, IL, 400 miles or so, nonstop 70-75. truck had about 3000 miles on it at that time. it was pretty flat terrain after getting past St. Louis. Next stop was Beckly, WV, and I got 20 mpg on that hilly run, also non-stop. I'm happy as all get out with this truck. no bed cover and using stock exhaust.
1)17.4 mpg
2)SE KC
3)Both Big Tow and Off Road
4)4WD
Flat midwest toll road trip at 65mph average with 87 gas and 6,000 miles on the odometer. I have a Truxedo.
I also tow a 3500lb boat which takes it down to about 12.5mpg.
1) 15.4 MPG (twice)
2) LE Crew Cab
3) Big tow & Off-road (3.36)
4) 4wd
I got 15.4 MPG on two round trips Orlando to Tampa. There is a lot of construction so my speed was 60-65. Never over 65. As far as elevation and terrain, well, it is Florida. Doing pure city driving, I get in the 12's. My average mileage over the last 2,552 miles is 14.2 MPG.
The 4x4 Crew Cab with Big Tow and Offroad is the worst possible case for these trucks as far as mileage. Heaviest, highest (slightly), worst gearing, and largest tires (slightly). Yet Nissan still puts the 14/18 mileage statement on them. Seems to me 12/16 would have been more honest, including a statement to keep speed down. (I did a mostly highway trip at 75 mph and ended up getting only 14.3 on it.)
P.S. to "juma": You got an absolutely incredibly tight engine and drivetrain. Everything must just have meshed together perfectly. I would never touch anything on that truck.
1) 18+mpg almost every tank, mostly highway driving
2)KC XE
3) No BT or OR
4) 2wd
Before I had put 5000 miles on it, and without the Banks and Volant, the mpg was much worse, 2-4mpg worse.
I think the exhaust and intake and the break-in miles helped increase the fuel economy alot.
1) 17.8 MPG
2) SE KC
3)Big tow AND Offroad
4)2 wd
Any comments- Wife driving, average speed 65MPH (slower than my normal on a down to San Diego and Return trip along the I-15.) 87 Octane always.
When I drive this (consistently) at 70-80MPH I am right at 15.7-16MPG for the same trek. 172 miles round trip. Truck is well past break-in at 13,800 miles.
Running totals-averages of best tank mpg.
