I heard today that Nissan is going issue a recall on the Titan for the Brakes. I was told that they are finding that the rotors are too small and braking is causing to much heat and warping the rotors to fast. This came from the finance guy at the dealer I bought the Titan from. Anybody else hear that? I am told they are going to put bigger rotors on.

Maybe cross-drilled ventilated rotors?

Yes, sounds good. But I don't see how replaced rotors will solve the problem of mushy feel or abnormally long pedal travel. I'm no brake expert, but that seems like something that would require repair/replacement/adjustment of the master cylinder or at the calipers.

It could very well cause the problem if the rotors are not only too small (diameter) but they are too thin as well. If they are too thin the fluid has to do much more work to compress the pads...hence more fluid...hence more pedal travel. I wonder if they spec'd larger brakes and then changed them during production to save a few pennies. It's been known to happen...
at first I didnt understand what everyone was talking about with the rotor problems and the long pedal length--until today. I just hit 2000 miles, and I swear I have to depress the brake pedal down pretty far to get them to engage properly

I agree Sammy. I'm not a brake expert either and although I believe having larger beefier rotors is good and actually the Titan should have such rotors you are right that's just one component in the brake system. We have already heard comments supposedly from Nissan posted on this forum about caliper pins causing the calipers to"stuck" resulting in perhaps the pad not coming off the rotors properly. I have also researched lately warped rotors on various technical sites and they also mentioned modified master brake cylinders to decrease pedal travel. So basically in my unprofessional opinion in automechanics and brake theory but using common sense and basic logic it seems to me the basic brake system may need to be examined again. Which I am not sure will take place. On these sites I have been looking at warped rotors and brake dust is a common experience. Lately when I walk around parking lots I have been looking at other vehicles and mostly every one that has discs have dust. Anyway personally I am looking forward to anything Nissan can do to improve this matter. And if they are beginning with larger beefier rotors then that is great! I was watching a recent episode of Horsepower on Spike TV and they replaced the whole brake system w/ a high performance brake system . That was impressive. Sorry for the rambling.

As Spartan posted below there is a TSB out "brake judder" This is great for all the guys experiencing this problem such as you Big Joe I know you have been waiting for your "upgraded" pads and since you did not update us on how it went perhaps you did not get it done yet. I would suggest for those having this repair done to print the TSB out and specifically mention to the dealer there is a TSB out which most likely they are aware of but just to make sure they follow the procedures. As far as a recall however I did not see that stated. It seems like it is on a as you need it basis. And of course no larger or beefier rotors. Perhaps that will come in the future. But for now looks like one step at a time kind of thing.

Really Really print out the TSB and personally read it and make sure your dealer follows it. It's very involved esp. the burnishing procedure which actually is very good. I have been reading in racing sites and forums that is how you break in the pads. The bummer is they have to drive it a lot but for the sake of good braking so be it. Also as mentioned no impact wrenches to be used. Also a special on car brake lathe to be used may want to confirm your dealer has the one referenced. For those heading out to do yours please post how it went.-Thanks
I can't wait until they try to find a straight smooth road where they can drive at 30mph and stop and do it over again #10 Burnish. Around here if you do that you are libel to get run off the road.

What does it mean for a TSB to be opened?
If I haven't seen a specific problem in my truck , but a TSB exists, do I assume it will eventually exist. So do I take it to the dealer to look at beforehand. Or do I need to wait until it manifests itself?
