Has anybody seen or heard of any crash test ratings on the Titan? Was kinda wondering how it compared to other trucks in its class.
I think we all know who came in last.
hmmmmm.... maybe the f-one fiddy?
Until this year, that was definetely true, by far. But they cleaned up their act in MY '04, in the midst of spendin upwards of spending $1.8 billion to redesign their new model. Here is a link where they talk about it: F150 vs Mini Cooper You probably don't care that much about the ferd's rating, but it has improved.
Hell with with the hoods and roofs denting on our trucks, I wouldn't be so sure about that.
now this may not be the case w/ the TITAN but a lot of times they use materials (aluminium, steel, fiberglass) that is not only lightweight but also dissipates energy well.

Yeah, but doesn't the redesigned f one fiddy weigh more that the previous one? If that is the case I think that the rating would be worse than before.

I am not a Ford advocate by any stretch, but the fact is, if you are going to crash head on in a truck, the new F150 has proven to be the safest place to be. No truck that I am aware of has ever turned in better crash test results in a head on collision or an offset collision. Truth is, these trucks crumble just as they are supposed to.

The juries still out on the Titan, however I hope it gets five stars because it has a fully boxed frame and crumple zones like the f-150. I am sure Nissan tested it themselves because if they didn't and it is dangerous then they just wasted billions on producing a truck they wouldn't be able to sell.

Don't all new models have to be crash tested, as required by the NHTSA? I guess if they tested it, and it was good, they would be talkin up those good results. I'm not sure though.
Manufacturer's perform their own crash tests to prove compliance with NHTSA requirements. Results are not published for the public. The test results that we all hear about come from testing done by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety/Highway Loss Data Institute. Their crash tests are more rigorous than required by the NHTSA, and are independent of the manufacturers. They basically buy cars off the lots of dealers and wreck them, funded by the insurance industry, the results of which establish our insurance premiums.
