I think thats a great idea, seems like there are enough people who post or at least read this forum to add that in
Anyway I posted my link to the kicker web page awhile ago and never got around to snapping pics of the box. This is 2 Kicker L7 8" subs which required a bit more airspace, I also kept it sealed as porting it would have required the box to be huge! The last thing I need to do is shave the corners opff a bit on the edges as you can see in the pictures. A little fiberglass and some new carpet will fix that right up.
Well guys, I wired the amp up temporarily and even with the gain turned all the way down, I had to turn the bass on the head unit to -3. The subs sounded like they were "bassing out." Don't know why, cause they sounded fine when I had them in my old truck. Perhaps it's cause I'm not running RCA pre outs, but high power speaker level input. Don't get me wrong, it sounds pretty decent, but kinda wondering since I had to turn the bass down and gain all the way down to get it to play undistorted. Any suggestions from you audiophiles?
BTW: The factory sub is made by Rockford Fostgate, but the factory sub box has a Clarion sticker on it. I've got pictures if you'd like to see. Another thing I found interesting is that the oem mono sub has two seperate channels running into it (4 wires.)
if you having distortion issues you may to need to get a level reader on your level outputs as the they may be sending a too low signal to your amp causing it to have to work too hard (most likely seeing that we have a low end head unit)--therefore creating the distortion--killing your performance. even though your amp has high level signal inputs it can only amplify clean if it is given a clean input. try this
Yeah, it's been atleast 6 or 7 years since I've messed with car audio, so I don't remember much, not that I was ever real knowledgeable on the subject. I actually used the oem sub's wires to input into the amp, seems they would have decent power. And what about the gain, I had to turn it all the way down to get a somewhat clear sound.

also in regards to the amp please note that I belive the output for the speaker wires is somehow tuned for a 2 ohm output as that is what all the stock speakers are. I know this has more to do with the stock amp, but just thought id put it out there
and in regards to the gain---that is being affected by the input signal. the issue you are having and will probably continue to have is that the amp is actually overworking itself to produce a proper sound so it is creating the distortion since it is not receiving enough input voltage. try the L.O.C line out converter, and you will most likely see a distinct improvement of sound from the deck through the amps rca input instead of the high level inputs
Jack is still back there and easily accessible. The box was a custom job made by a shop I used to work for. Still gonna grab some dimensions tomorrow for all interested.

I got the power wired through the firewall tonight and run up under the driver seat. I had the driver seat out, so it made it very easy, and I found a suitable hole for the hood release to run the 8 gauge wire through. I'll take Smoketitan's advice and get a line convertor and try that. I would have had it done this weekend, but all the car audio stores were closed. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to get one. For now I just coiled up the power cable and put the driver seat back in so I can drive to work in the morning. Wish me luck.

Actually I think you are receiving TOO MUCH gain since you are using the high level outputs probably after the OEM amp. You are getting too much wattage from the OEM amp driving the inputs into your RF aftermarket amp causing the output of this amp into your speakers to be too powerful hence you have to turn the gains all the way down to compensate. You definitely need to use a LOC as smoke suggests. Should sound great afterwards. Good luck!
LordReed,
That is the exact box I want to build in my CC. Any way you can give some dimensions and internal construction? (baffles, ports, partitions). Thanks
