I just finished up a little project, well finished one phase anyways. I had an old sub box with two Rockford 8"s in it just sitting in the garage. The box was too big to fit anywhere in my CC, so I decided to fab one myself. The plan was to make it fit under the rear seat on the driver's side. The dimensions are pretty tight, but I was able to make it work. I think it turned out pretty good for my first time doing this. I still have to wire the amp up. I plan on placing it under the driver's seat after I remove the factory sub. My amp has hi power inputs, which I'll probably wire off of either the rear channel or factory sub powered wires. I'll update once I'm finished.
Id say you did an excellent job!!!!!!---I am looking to put a 8 under the frontdriver seat--what would you say was the most difficulty part, and approx how much for the materials. did you use 3/4 or 1" mdf??
Most difficult part would be the carpet. Covering the majority of it was easy, but got a little rough on the ends. For the most part it looks decent. I used 3/4" mdf, I wouldn't think 1" is necissary for 8"s or 10"s. Plus 3/4" is all the Lowes carries here. They had a half a sheet that some customer never picked up, so I got it for $10. Carpet was $7 at Walmart. The rest of the hardware was canabalized from the old box. I bought a big container of wood glue, spray adhesive, dry wall screws, sandpaper, and a 2" hole saw. I also got a jig saw, which will come in handy for other work. The cost really depends on how much stuff you have laying around.
Nice job. I thought that locating the amps behind the rear seat against the back wall of the cab was a good idea. Any particular reason for the amp under the driver's seat? Less wiring to run, make use of stock wiring or something like that?
Not bad at all Sammy. Two questions though. Is it ported on both sides? Is there a partition between the two subs? Come to think of it, I have another question. Does that box stick out of the front of the rear seats at all or is it totally flush with the the front. Just wondering because although I am certain that you have checked it, from the photos that looks awfully tall. I have two twelves that I will be fabricating a box for and I will have to get creative because they are going to be incredibly difficult to mount even in a downfiring situation because of height constraints.

I considered that, but I want everything to be hidden. If I fold down the back seats you'd see the amps. Plus if I'm installing an aftermarket sub, the factory one is uneeded, so I can use that space. I'll let you know how it turns out once I get the amp hooked up and everything. I'll probably just test the whole thing before actually running the wire under the plastic molding and through the firewall.

Just ported on one side. No partition, just set up like the Rockford Box that I took the subs out of. No it doesn't stick out in front of the rear seats, but it is a very tight fit. It wouldn't fit with both the rubber and carpet mats in, so I remove the carpet mats. I also took off the plastic grocery bag hooks so I wouldn't have to slam the back seat down to latch it. These picts should give you an idea:
thanks for the answers and especially, the visual. That helps tremendously. Also it never occured to me to take the grocery bag hooks off. That should help to achieve an additional 1/2" or so. Great...thanks. Thanks also for being the forums grammatical faux paus monitor. Clearly, this is a pet peeve of yours as well.

No problem. You mean I'm the grammatical faux pas monitor. Guess that makes me the forum spelling faux pas monitor as well. That reminds me of a funny story. A buddy of mine worked at a small town Lowes while in college. He'd repeatedly have customers ask where were the "fox" finish blinds?
Nice work Sammy! When all is done and you are assured it sounds good, could you possibly post some box dimensions? Like you I have two 8" subs sitting in my garage (Orions) in a bandpass enclosure for a hatchback (from my old Honda Civic). What you are doing is exactly what I have been considering. Mainly because I don't want the e-bay box that takes up the whole portion of space under the rear seats. Also what kind of power will you be running for your RF's? Keep up the good work!

Thanks. I'll try and draw up a little sketch with dimensions, as it is a strange shape. I ran an old RF punch 250, that works fine on the 8"s. They are old and pretty cheap and don't require too much power. Originally I had them set up in the back of my old Blazer, and with the open cabin they sounded pretty good. I also had RF component 6.5" running off another Punch 250 up front and Pioneer 5.25 components that I built a plate for and put in the factory 6x9 spot. The whole system sounded pretty good, I even had a 1/4 farad cap and a optima battery. For now I'm looking to keep the Titan oem HU (hopefully it will be fixed) and simply add some more responsive bass.
I have 2 Kicker L7 8" subs under my seat. I'll snap a few pics today and you can see another option. My subs fire downward in a sealed enclosure. I have a bit more trimming to do on the corners but the sound is incredible.

Off to snap the pics...
Sounds good! Maybe we should have an Audio/Video thread Seems to be enough people installing aftermarket equipment!
I think thats a great idea, seems like there are enough people who post or at least read this forum to add that in
Anyway I posted my link to the kicker web page awhile ago and never got around to snapping pics of the box. This is 2 Kicker L7 8" subs which required a bit more airspace, I also kept it sealed as porting it would have required the box to be huge! The last thing I need to do is shave the corners opff a bit on the edges as you can see in the pictures. A little fiberglass and some new carpet will fix that right up.
