Help A Newbe Out

I am in the process of buying a Titan. After reading all the problems you guys are having I am a little scared.

1. brakes
2. stereo fade
3. bedliner cracking
4. overhead console cracking
5. squeeks and rattles
What else?

Should I wait a little bit and get a 2005?

I drive a 2002 CC v8 4x4 Dakota with 45k and have had hardly no problems... only one warrenty issue. The Titan on the other hand is looking.... well not so good.

Opinions? I really want a new truck I can pull a trailer with and a little more room.

I would wait the few months for the next model year IMHO. But on the other hand some of the people on here haven't had any problems with their trucks. Plus you can get a great deal on one with the rebate now.

Some have had problems and some have not had any.

You will, more likely than not, hear from those who do because that's what we humans do.

There are also many posts in which it is quite evident that a lot of TITAN owners have an emotional attachment to their truck. They simply love it!

The 2005 should be better for the experience of the 2004 but that is not always a given.

Speaking for myself, the only issue I have right now is the radio which I almost never listen to (the CD is quite good). I've had the Titan for 6 months and still smile everytime I drive it.

Go to the Ford, Dodge, Chevy forums if you really want to get scared. . . .

Test drive the Titan. That will decide for you.

Good luck with whichever truck you choose.

I recently bought mine and I have had only the radio fade problem in rural areas only and a slight rattle in my dash, which will soon get fixed. I say go for it, but if you want to wait, that's your choice. I just know I could not.

well drive the titan and you will love it, and forget about the problems. and if you have a dakota with no problems you are one of the LUCKY ONES. I so wanted to like the ram as I love the looks, and I wanted to say that I have a hemi, but dude it really just cant compare. I will give the dodge this it does have the smoothest ride off all the vehicles (f150, titan, etc..) .

So with saying that I have 1,2,4, and 5, and the only thing I wish I had was the interior quality of the f150 (including the automatic sliding window), and the smooth ride of the ram---but test drive the titan roll around in it, for awhile (especially on the freeway to test if you like the suspension)--RENT ONE if you can---but after all that I would have to say that there is no way that you would buy anything else even with all the nicks ---but if you can wait for the 05 in like september----if not, buy now with the cool rebate from carsdirect ($1000 under invoice!!!!), and put the $1000 dollars towards a 7yr/100,000 warranty(about $1500-$1800) and you will still be cheaper than the ford, and toyota--and a nissan will inevitably LAST WAY LONGER than the dodge---my 2 cents

I have driven the Titan a few times and I am sold on the performance end.

My build sheet is;
-bench
-big tow package
-off road package with locker
-crew cab SE
-radiant silver with graphite int
-splash gaurds
-floor mats
-upgrade stereo with 6 disc indash changer
-Utility bed package with divider and bed extender

It will be at the dealer next week and my name is on it but I can still back out as I didn't put any money down. I decided against the Rockford stereo as I want to add my own.

Any suggestions on the build?

What is this $1000 under invoice you are talking about?

It's a $1000 rebate that is on this month, you buy it now, you get $1000 off your negotiated price.

I like the options you have chosen, the radio issue should mean nothing to you if you're going to replace it.

There is a checklist that our forum members have put together. Print it out and take it with you before you accept delivery on your TITAN. Others have done this and have had the dealer take note and repair/replace under warranty. That will keep you from having to discover some issues on your own.

Good luck, hope to see pictures soon of your new TITAN.

I love my Titan. I have no regrets what so ever. I have not had any of the problems yet, at 1500mi. Honestly, I'm not even worried if I do. Nissan seems to be really interrested in making each and every Titan owner happy if there is a problem. Right now, I feel the truck is a much better package then the big three offer. I also like the fact that the truck is relatively rare compared to the others. You can go to home depot and play the match game in the lot with the other identical trucks. One of the main reasons I bought my truck was because while I feel a new Titan is a better truck then the others, in the future I'm confident that a 100,000mi Titan will be much better then a 100,000 competitor. My family has owned many Nissans, and I can count on one hand the number of problems we have had in hundreds of thousands of miles.

By upgrade stereo w/6 disc changer, you mean that you got the SE Preferred package right? If you have the OR package, then you have to have the Preferred. Looks like a good order to me! Can't wait to see it!

before you agree on a price go to www.carsdirect.com, you know what Ill make it easy--just print this page out, and have the dealer you are located at match this price in the attachment ( it is just a adobe printout from cardirect website))

I assumed that you wanted 4x4 as you had the big tow,and off road?? if not just go to carsdirect to alter the estimate to remove the 4x4(although I would recommend the 4x4 for real truck use, and resale value---many here recommended this to me when I was researching and I am glad I listened as I needed it in the mountains today). just take this in, and show it to the dealer--you will have no problem getting them to match this price--they may even beat it. at the time I bought mine ( four months back) they beat the carsdirect price. good luck

1. brakes - Already recalled and going to be replaced.
2. stereo fade - Prototypes of fix sent out and some installed.
3. bed liner cracking - Only a few with problem, not widespread.
4. overhead console cracking - Only a few, screws were tightened to tight.
5. squeaks and rattles - Not general problem, most have not problems.
What else?

With all the other info the other members have shared you should be confident enough to see that alot of these problems other then the radio and isolated and not wide spread. Good luck.

Thanks for all the info guys and the print out. I think Ill go ahead and get one.

A few more questions though...

Does the utility bed and all the extra stuff rattle when driving down the road?

Also, I want to get the 18" chrome wheels but the delear is saying that you cant put the 18s on the 4x4 off road package. I really like the 5 star like 18s that some of the LEs come with.

How do after market wheels work with the tire pressure sensors?

1. Utility bed does not rattle. What "all the extra stuff"?
2. 17" wheels are standard with the off-road pkg. They are essentially the same size in height as the 18", since they have a taller sidewall. I have the off-road with the 17" wheels, and test drove the 18" wheel Titan. The off-road version to me gave the better ride. The 17" wheels look every bit as nice as the 18" IMHO.
