Haha, 18 inch tires are smaller than those little doughnuts that some cars have for spares!! Seems okay, but you might find a special at Sears or Costco that's a better deal. If you don't have either of those stores, then look at your nearest tire store to have a sale.

Sounds 'CHEAP' to me...the replacement 17" variety for the Off-Road pkg are over $150 each.

Sounds good to me too. To make things easy, before you purchase call around & see if local chains can match this price. Worked for me. Good luck.

I found a tire that fits our 8" wide rim and is approximately the same diameter as the stock tires. They are Michelin Pilot LTX in 275/65-18. They're currently on sale at Tire Rack for only $87. The low price might make you think that this must be a POS tire, but the prices on the other close sizes are between $180-$220 each. I've only got 3000 miles on the original crappy SR-A's, but I went ahead and picked up 4 of the Michelins to store in the basement. If you know someone with a wholesale account, the price is $76 each + about $20 each for shipping. Still works out to < $100 each and is a much better tire than the stock Goodyears.

I think I would go with these if I needed new tires. Personally I am happy with the SRA's for now. The price for the ones below is steep though. They are about the same diameter, and I bet they would look pretty bad ***. BTW, those Michelins are good tires but quite a bit smaller than the stock size.

Yes, the Michelins are slightly smaller (32.1" versus 32.6" diameter) and based on one of the tire calculator websites, you'll get a 1 mph difference on the speedo when going 75 mph.

In the stock size there are very few tire choices. The one you suggest is a good choice if you need good snow/mud performance and don't mind paying the high price. But it's not a common size either. So if you want a larger choice of tires, you'll have to go to an even smaller diameter tire, say 285/60-18, which many different manufacturers seem to make.

I don't take my truck off road and it rarely snows in Atlanta, so a performance street-oriented tire is what I'm after. And at 87 bucks, the Michelin Pilot LTX is a steal.

Would you buy them and store them

Would buying them and storing them be a good or bad idea?

BFG AT/KO tires for off road Titans

List price on the BFG rugged trail is about $177. While these are good tires
for most people and OK for bad gravel roads and such they are not the
most rugged tires and the weight rating is marginal for heavy loads and
big time towing. BFG just released their D rated LT tire in the AT/KO format
with three ply sidewalls. These list for about $210 or so per tire. These are
real truck tires with a much better tread pattern and are a much stronger
tire. Good noise quality and they still ride pretty nice. The P rated stock
tires ride best if that is your concern but for us folks that spend alot of
time on bad BLM roads and such I strongly suggest you upgrade when the
stock tires wear out if you can afford them. I have had these on 4 different
rigs and only one flat and that was a big tent stake that caused the problem.
I will warn you BFG AT/KO tires tend to be the same price or close everywhere so If you are looking for a bargain you won't find it. While the
BFG street and rugged trails are fine tires for what they are I highly suggest
for us folks that run our rigs heavy and hard that you look at these tires.

Storing Tires

Well it depends on how long and how they are stored. Be aware one of the
things that differ on trailer versus car truck tires is the compounds that make
them. Trailer tires tend to sit alot so they have extra stabilizers in them to
help them last. Car tires don't tend to last that long so they are optimized
for different things. If you are going to store them make sure you keep them
out of the sun and away from ozone (big electrical motors for example). I
personally wouldn't keep a tire for more than five years but hey I am paranoid
about such stuff but usually the bad roads take care of them before the
tread is gone anyway.

There's a $80 off from Costco if you buy 4 Michelin or Bridgstone.
http://www.costco.com/frameset.asp?t...3960&log=&log=

Also, I hear many negative comments about the original SR-A. Can someone tell me the reasons. I think it's quiet but don't know how they are compared to others in performance, tread wear, etc....

Thanks

As far as I am concerned both the Goodyear and the BFG's are equally worthless for a 4wd. The BFG rugged trail are not rugged and are wothless on trails. I had them on my tundra and in 10,000 miles had at least 10 flat tires(all in the sidewalls). On rocky or gravel roads they just don't hold up. I need an LT rated tire preferably D load range. In addition, if you carry heavy loads the tires bulge so much that any rock will puncture them. I have the Goodyears on my titan now. I have 1800 miles and 3 flat tires so far (all sidewall punctures). I will be lucky to get 10,00 miles.Nissan should offer real 4wd tires for those that actually use their truck in a 4wd enviroment.
