Hello, I've been reading this site for a few days. I test drove a Titan the other day and, similar to most, was excited enough to shop seriously. Loved the ride, configuration, etc. I'm trying to get out of my Dodge Dakota nightmare.
I'm glad I found this site... all I can say is Wow. The experiences of transmissions needing replaced, brake rotors warping (I know that story well - the dakota eats rotors for breakfast), airbag sensors, etc etc. It sounds like the Titan just isn't there yet, and that I'd be walking right into another service/repair marathon, which I just can't afford to do. I just won't buy another new Ford/Chevy/Dodge, so I guess I'll be dragging in the dakota for a while. And I thought the Titan was the answer I was looking for!!!!!!
You will never find a vehicle that no one has some problems with. It doesn't matter to me if the truck is rated as the most reliable if the one I have is a problem. As long as the manufacturer will fix the problem and they are minor problems I don't see those things as being a big deal. I don't see many threads saying the Titan left someone stranded on the road. A lot of these little things could be fixed if you want to add an extra $10000 to the price of the trucks. I sure don't want to see that.

I wouldn't take all the bad stuff you read here to heart- as it has been mentioned before you are looking at what around 300 (guessing) people across the USA are saying about the trucks. That is a very small percentage of owners, and most of which will tell you that they haven't had one problem. It is really the only downside to a forum like this. I have over 4K on mine and really have had nothing to complain about. My dad even went out and bought one because of how much he liked mine. Go and read the Dodge, Ford, Chevy and Toyota forums. Every one of them are riddled with complaints- some legit, some not. I guarantee that if you base your not buying on info from the forums, you will never buy one. Thats just how it is.
I don't think you can buy a better truck, and you won't find a better forum than this one. I read it every day.
As has been said before - people mostly come here to get answers. If they are having a problem, they post. Most don't post just to say "hey, 5,000 miles and my truck is doin great", "hey, 10,000 miles and my truck is doin great". That is why most people post, b/c they have problems. I've been a member at DTO for a long time, as well as DTW. If you read the problems there, you'll know that the # of probs you see here are nothin to worry about. I've been reading and posting for a month now, and nothing I've seen has even made me think twice about a Titan.
First Year Cars always have problems, as long as Nissan is willing to fix it and not give the run around I do not see it as a problem, inconvience maybe. The price of being an early adopter.
I forgot to mention that I have had no problems at all with my Titan at 12000 miles. I use it for work so I have hauled and towed a lot of stuff. The Titan has handled it like a champ. Performance wise I think we might overdo it a bit because it works more like a 3/4 ton truck than a 1/2 ton.

I do have to get the brakes looked at, but that is because the dealer called me to ask about the TSB for Brake Judder. They want to be proactive and look at them.
No radio problems, no issues here. This is a fantastic vehicle and to not buy one because you read a couple of people are having issues, all of which are covered under Nissan's incredible warranty, is silly.
Show me any vehicle with no problems and I will buy it for you. They simply do not exist.

A good way to look at the "problems" section is to see how many new posts there are. You'll notice that there aren't that many new posts per day, or even per week. I think we had some common problems at first, and that the Titan has since proved to be a damn nice truck.
Comparing the Titan to a Dakota is apples/oranges. Maybe a better way to put it is passion fruit/lemon!
I've had several cars from the big three, and several made by Japanese companies. In general, you get better reliability from the Japanese vehicles. None are perfect, but I'll trade a little brake judder and dash rattle for piston slap, leaking seals, bad trannies, bad wheel bearings, etc., any day.
Let me add warped intake, cracked manifold, faulty ABS, warped rotors, failed O2 sensor, dash that falls apart, separating headliner, faulty headlight assembly and a few other things just from my 2001 PontiCrap Grand Prix.
6000+ miles and 2 minor problems. 2 minor quarter size spots of overspray & cd changer adjustment, both fixed immediately, no sweat.
the is far and away the best truck i have ever owned!!

I’m sorry about your decision, but… oh-well.
6K miles now never been to the shop, no rattles, no single problem, just absolutely still love this truck. Today loaded up with landscaping & building materials while tomorrow it will be 1 pallet of Palmetto-Augustine SOD. To be fair I could buy two of just about anything manufactured without concern but choose & still do the Titan. No problems…
hope you reconsider..i love this truck have over 18xxx miles in just over 3 months towing heavy loads playing and just generally grinning from ear to ear!!! no shakes rattles squeeks nothing at all..being a first year there might be some probs but i truely believe nissan is gonna go the extra mile to fix everything and make people happy..drive one again and you will be hooked and dreaming until you trade that dodge in!
You're making some good points. I've taken some time and called several service departments (both Nissan dealers and independent mechanics) and they are saying the same things. Most honestly believe this is a solid truck that is built for the "long run". I've also looked at the other forums dedicated to other trucks - you're right - every single one has problems (and often it's hard to tell legit issues from sour grapes).
Thank you for your replies!!! After the dakota experience, I suppose I'm hypersensitive to mechanical problems.

Grizzly,
As many have already told you, the problems the Titan may have are magnified by reading those posts here. Many, many others do not have those problems, or only have the "minor annoyance" problems (e.g., brake dust, squeaks, rattles, etc.). These issues occur with most vehicles, in one form or other.
I believe the main reason prople have bought the Titan over the competition comes down to one thing: it's great fun to drive. With this, you can overlook minor annoyances. My Titan was built on 4/03 and it has in general been well behaved (crossing my fingers).
Right now, Nissan has incentives of a $1,000 rebate and low financing options--which is a good thing. This was not available when I bought. Darn! Darn!
You could wait until the 2005 model year (maybe sometime in November) and see if the build quality in your estimation has improved. I doubt then you will get any rebates. And who knows what financing options will then be available?
As you seem to have had problems with your Dakota, the Titan more than probably would not be as bad. It seems the Titan build quality has steadily improved, as Nissan is actively solving problems.
No need to be impulsive, the rebate I understand is good through July 7, 2004 (???). Between now and then you should be able to decide.

More to come
After a year of no action from GMC and then my file was closed and listed as a dissatisfied customer I came to the Titan and I too was a little over sensitive to anything with the auto industry and the distaste leftover from GMC was keeping me from really enjoying this truck. So when I had a few issues with the Titan it was disappointing and I sort of felt it was starting all over again. After finding this site and talking to others I began to see how minor most of these problems are and everything I have gone back to the dealer with has been fixed, or addressed, including my own screw-ups setting off dash warning lights, without being put off or charged or questioned. That's about the best you can hope for from any company is a willingness to take care of the customer after the sale. I got rid of the Sierra because GMC WOULDN'T backup their product not because I didn't like the truck. My greatest frustration was that I did like the truck and wanted to keep it but couldn't get it fixed. Took a beating on it trading it with 24,000 mi. By the way I did tell the dealer why I was trading it and that GMC could deny the problem but I wouldn't lie about.
Thanks to all for the help and support from this site as it just adds to the experience of owning the best truck out there right now.
PS: If you wait for the perfect truck, or package, or deal, or what ever you'll be driving that lousy Dodge forever!

Please keep in mind that on forums you commonly hear all the negative and much less of the positive. I have yet to have a single customer come back on a Titan with problems. As others have said, it is a machine, all machines have problems.
