Nav manual/DVD??

Got my CC LE Titan a few weeks ago and am loving it - so far (knock on wood) haven't had the problems some have mentioned here.

Anyway, I have the factory Nav system/rear seat DVD, but I did not get a manual for it. I'm assuming there actually is one since it's referenced in the owners manual. I did download the PDF from nissan-techinfo.com but I'd really prefer the printed version assuming I am due.

Also, was I supposed to receive an backup copy of the map data DVD, or is the one actually in use in the drive under the p. seat the only copy I get?

Finally, random question - my dealer told me there would be yearly updates for the system I could buy, but had no idea when they were being released or how much. Anyone find this out yet?

Thanks!

I got a printed NAV manual (about the same size as owner's manual), no backup DVD (I was going to try to make one by only using needed files-use that copy-keep original as backup), have not heard anything about updates.

Same. I did get a manual. It is pretty thick, but does not tell you anything that you can not probably figure out yourself. I also did not get a backup DVD and I don't think that is ever part of the plan.

I also have an Acura with Nav and although they are not the same, I would imagine that the processes would be similar. For example for backing up the DVD, that may be harder than you think. You can certainly copy the DVD to your HDD, but trying to make a DVD copy will prove to be challenging since the DVD is almost definitely a dual layer DVD (~9 GB vice 4.7 GB which is what the current DVD-R standard is). At least that was the way it was for my Acura.

Acura also says that they will do a yearly update. I have had it for 2 years and have yet to really hear anything about one except that the cost was way more than what you might expect - somewhere close to $100! What a rip for just a DVD.

Last thing, do you really need an update? My Acura definitely needs one since I lived in 2 areas already that were not mapped, but so far the Titan Nav has had everything mapped on it that I have seen, and I have been in some pretty remote and new areas.

BTW for everyone else the Nav systems completely rocks. I used to think that is was just kind of gimmicky, but it really really is pretty useful.

Here's the link to where you can buy the latest version (6.2) of the Navigation DVD. Currently lists for $185...

NAV DVD Updates

There is an on-line version of the NAV Manual available to download at the NISSAN Publications Web Site. Once you registered, I think it was a free download. I tried posting it as an attachment, but at 4.7 MB it was just a little too large...

And for those how are constantly driving to diffrent places or making deliveries, the NAV System is more than just a "cool toy"... I work for a catering business, and I use it routinely to make sure we arrive on-time and at the right location...

Okay, here's another question for those with the Nav system. Does it cover ON road stuff only, or does it also have off road trails?

I have never actually checked for sure, but I am pretty confident in saying that it will not include anything off what it considers a road. The manual talks about knowing which roads are major etc. (this is how it determine the shortest distance versus shortest time function) so I don't think it will include any trails. That is pretty consistent with other Nav systems I have used/seen.

It does offer a tracking function, which is like a breadcrumb trail of where you drive. You have to turn it on/off, but it will track your trail. Again I have only briefly used this function, but I have used it on my Acura and it can be helpful if you drive off the beaten road, but so far there has not been any off the beaten road for my Titan.

I used the tracking function the other day for a very interesting reason.

We had a call out for a lost diabetic who drove away from home without their medication. Turns out they need to inject themselves every 4 hours and this guy finally decided he had had enough and wanted to just give up.

We got called in to effect a road search as he was known to like to drive until he passed out. He had hoped to do this and kill himself at the same time. Problem was he didn't care if he killed someone else in the process so time was against us as well.

Well we set up a search grid of roads and I started t take one sector and with tracking on, I was able to follow all the roads I drove or passed and needed to go back and cover.

He was found alive by a sheriff about an hour into the search so that was a good thing.

For legal reasons we have to document or efforts and show how we proceeded with the search. I was able to show the entire route I took without having to trace it out on a map which made it a lot easier for me to document my efforts.

Other members of the team used their own handheld GPS systems and had the same results as I did, but it just goes to show how the navigation system can actually do something other than take you to the nearest restaurant.

My CO & WY experience is on-road only, although it does seem to have quite a few small gravel roads that I wasn't really expecting to be there.

It must be my lucky day. I already have the latest version of the DVD Good thing too because $185 for the upgrade is retarded - I hope Nissan offers them cheaper (but doubt it).

I already have the online manual but thanks for the offer. I really want the printed one as I don't feel like printing out all 186 pages on my printer, not to mention the extra space it would take up. Plus, I paid a lot of money for the Nav system and I just want my damn manual
