Front Passenger Seat Removal Warning and Headlight Strobes

I am with a volunteer fire department and was working on placing my fire radio and lights in my Titan over the weekend and found out two important items. First, if you remove the front Passenger seat, there are two wire harnesses that have to be removed. Prior to removing these, disconnect BOTH the positive and negative battery cables and wait at least 3 minutes. I removed only the negative cable and when I reconnected the seat harness and turned on the ignition, my airbag light was blinking. I had to take it to the dealer to have the light reset.

Second, I was installing hide-a-way headlight strobes and tailight strobes for my warning lights. Anyone looking at doing this, I would steer away from it. The headlight assembly is double walled and when you drill through the back of the assembly, there is a space before you get the reflector. Also, the only strobes I would use are the grommet style since the material is to thin to use the screw in type. With this being a sealed unit, I had to silicone around the two holes, hopefully this will keep out the condensation.

Use the search there is a thread on how to reset airbag lights. It works. I set mine off by unpluging the passenger seatbelt pretentioner to dry truck out after keyfob lowered my windows in a storm. I had leaned on it in my pocket and found out next day.

"I had to take it to the dealer to have the light reset."

If you have the airbag light, it will show steady for a few seconds (the manual says 7 secs) after you turn the key from off to on (but not start) and then start to flash. Don't try to look at your watch or count seconds, as that will mess you up. Here is what worked for me:

1. Turn the key from off to on.

2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few secs. and then as soon as it blinks off (the start of the flashing), turn the key off instantly.

3. Count to 5 (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi . . . .)

4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times until you have done the cycle three times.

5. Now turn the key on and watch the light. It will start blinking in a different, slower manner. This is diagnostic mode. You can watch this for a little while, no hurry.

6. Now turn the key off again, Count to 5 like in step 3 again, and turn back on. If the procedure worked, the airbag light will not be flashing.

"With this being a sealed unit, I had to silicone around the two holes, hopefully this will keep out the condensation."

I saw something in the manual about condensation in the headlights to the effect that some level of condensation is acceptable.

Yeah I believe that was the tread right there. Thanks. Bestatchess to the rescue again.

I have been debating whether to drill into the back of the lights to install a set of clear Whelen hideaway strobe tubes. Thanks for the advice. I might just forget the idea now.

I am putting my siren/horn/PA/radio rebroadcast unit switch in the covered storage bin to keep it handy and out of siight at the same time. This is my daily driver and my wife wants to keep it looking as much like one as possible.

Has anyone WITH the DVD player taken the storage bin out? What is involved in pulling that section of the console? I have yet to figure out how the DVD player is attached to the inside.

What I am wondering about is where to install the horn/siren. I was thinking about opposite the existing horns, but think it might cover too much of the tranny cooler and radiator and inhibit air flow. I know it needs to be up front so maybe there is some way to attach it in the lower grill area.

I haven't taken mine apart yet but I would like to get the DVD out of my console. It's in the way where it is and gets everything on top of it. One of the 1st thigs I did was leave a disk in it and it would try to eject then hit the console lid reload eject reload .... that was the 1st week I had it and took a while to figure out what that noise was.

Bestatchess - THANKS! I went out at lunch and tried the reset and it worked! Do you want me to write the check out to you instead of Nissan?

Rrumaner - The strobes are pretty cool, I put mine in right below the main headlight bulb and with all of the mirrors, they flash really good. If you do put them in, I would drill from the bottom of the light so that the particles come out the hole. The reflector assembly is fiberglass and the dust fills the light and it took a lot of air to get the dust out. I fabircated a plastic disk that I can put on the outer hole and silicone in place to make the light watertight again. I will take a pic and post of the lights and my switch console. I put a row of switches on a fabricated plate in the front overhead drop down pocket. My radio has a remote head, so it is going in the console down in the pen tray.

If I put in the strobes, I have to put them in the upper part of the light - the turn signal area - due to our regulations. To do that it sounds like I am going to have to remove the headlights to get at the back side.

If I get the chance this week, I am going to try to remove the DVD player and store it away along with the remote and headphones, all of which are still in their original plastic packaging.

I don't have the DVD player (King Cab LE), but I did take the console apart while installing an amateur radio, a Kenwood TM-D700 for those who care.

It was aggravating getting the rubber liner up from the bottom of the storage bin - a shop vac may help there. There are a couple of screws under there that hold the bin to the console and in turn hold the entire console to the frame of the truck.

I also remember pulling off the little rubber bump stops on the storage bin opening that the bin lid rests on (on the opposite side from the hinge). There are two tiny hex screws under there, 6mm I think, that I had to remove as well.

I know it's not quite the same setup, but I hope this information proves to be useful for you.

The headlights are relatively easy to take out. First remove the grill (Long Flat Head Screwdriver Needed), Remove the 9mm screws on the top and front of the light and the 9mm and 10mm screws from the bottom of the light. You can get to these from under the truck just in front of the wheel liner. I am not sure if you will have the depth or the amount of flat surface to mount the strobes in that area of the light.
