XM Options...

Hello all!

A question for the experienced Titaneers out there. Does anyone have advice on how to gain the XM access of the RF system? I understand that there is a SAT and/or AUX button, but do you get that hooked up at the dealer or can I go to Best Buy and install a system there?

Thanks!
Jim

If you have the RF system and you want to maintain integration (which I would suggest), you need to buy the Nissan OEM XM receiver. I bought mine from www.infinitiwholesaleparts.com and bought a Terk XM micro antenna plus splitter.

The install instructions are here:

http://www.courtesyparts.com/satelli...04%20Titan.pdf

Although I used the Terk XM Micro roof mount antenna and went through the third brake light instead of the through the glass antenna discussed in the instructions.

The Nissan XM receiver that I bought uses a two-lead antenna, so I needed to get a splitter with the Terk. The single lead of the Terk was nice for installation, and it has a nice long wire, I think 23 feet.

As you may note from the instructions, the install is a bit of a PITA, although once you get the XM receiver mounted, mounting the antenna is a cake walk.

You already have the NBUS cable under the driver's side dash to connect the XM receiver to the head unit.

You can get one from best buy, I got the new roady for mine. They are having a special where you get the car kit for free, that includes the antenna and the power cable, for free. Total cost - $136 with tax. It sounds great and it hooks into your AUX jack. If you have that empty space abouve your radio it fits great there, I drilled a hole and ran the cables behind the dash it looks pretty clean I will give pics if you are interested.

I bought the xm commander and had it hard wired into the aux jack. About 1/3 the cost of factory option and I couldn't be happier. Others have done this as well do a search on my screen name and you can see the pics.

If you like the Fosgate radio then the least bothersome option is to get the Nissan XM add-on and have them install it. The drawback is a healthy price tag.
The next option is to purchase an XM Commander or Delphi XM radio and connect it through the AUX input of the Fosgate.
My option was to jettison the Fosgate and install the radio head unit of my choice plus an XM Commander.

You pays your nickle and makes your choice!

After paying $400 for the parts, I wasn't about to part with another $200-$250 to do the install. So, I did it myself. It took about three hours. I wish I had gone with the Terk micro antenna like bestatchess, but the through-the-glass antenna isn't bad.

Delphi Roady @ $119. Connect thru AUX jack, not FM modulator. Also got a free home office kit coming thru a promotion at Crutchfield. Mounted Roady on a cellular mount on side of console below 4wd knob. Works like a champ and saved almost $300. Has 30 presets plus direct entry capability. My old Pioneer head unit w/ XM receiver only had 18 w/ no direct entry for station tuning. Also shows more characters for song/artist than the Pioneer. I can't speak for the Nissan OEM unit.

Same deal at best buy for the roady, you have to send in for the home kit. Best of all, you can change the color to orange, it goes good with the dash. I am loving it and it is a heck of alot cheaper!

labor

if u did it yourself and i hope you did it correctly. you took a big chance of messing with the computer as there were sevral checks during the install and even the shop foreman had a 2004 tundra and he burned out his computer installing a hitch and the wiring harness so i just let them do it and now it is fully warranted through nissan.
i really wanted the xm radio and i don't care for that micro antenna either i had my choice of the 3 and took the factory one.
not the ttg either

I have a Roady. Very easy to mount in any of the dash trays and hide wires. Roady's are $120.00 most places and right now you can get a free FM modulator (for a second car with no AUX input) and a free home kit. For you that bought the Roady before the free home kit offer you can still get it for $20.00 on the XM site.

More on Roady install. The cables that come with it have right angle plugs so they look neater. Try finding a right angle 1/8" stereo patch cord. They just aren't readilly available. I finally found one here:

http://www.arcade-electronics.com

sales@arcade-electronics.com

Product name : CAD 55-894 Part num : CAD 55-894

Ten bucks once shipping is added in.

Picture is of right angle plug. Part above is 6' cable with these plugs at both ends.

Lots of good info folks, thanks! What about the XM receiver though? Can't I buy an aftermarket receiver (not the Nissan one) from say Best Buy and have it installed? The way I translate the RF radio setup, the SAT feature is just an empty receptacle waiting for a receiver. Is there REALLY only one receiver option to buy (the Nissan OEM)?
