Titan's in the shop already

Noticed a leak from my differential and took it in, after checking the fluid it was an inch and a half below the check plug. I also have them searching for an annoying rattle from the passenger side captain seat. Is it just mine or are all Titans full of annoying little rattles???

Mine has a similar rattle. When I took my truck in (for other issues as well) they wrote on the service ticket that the rattle was coming from the utilitrac tie down that were still in a box under the passenger seat. Needless to say, they were wrong. All I can tell you is that I have decided that from here on out, any rattles that I hear that seem to come from inside the cabin, I will hunt them down on my own.

4,000 miles and no rattles [knock on wood] Even if I were to get a few sqeeks or rattles here or there, it couldn't be worse than my old Blazer, that thing shook like a Mexican Space Shuttle.

No rattles, squeaks, or buzzes from my SE CC 4x2. A little ticking initially from the injectors, but that's quieted down a lot, don't even notice it unless I'm in the garage and outside the truck. The RF radio even works great, AM, FM, or CD.
Caveat: I'm a bit hard of hearing and all of the above may not be true!! (Seriously, If I'd heard anything in the 2200 miles so far, I'd be on the dealer's doorstep. I've been listening pretty close.)
Good Luck with the new Titan.

I've got rattles, half the time they come from the kid's booster seats when my kids are not in them ,the other half of the time I don't know where they come from. Not a big deal for me.

The only one I have is coming from the dash console right on top of the gauges. Got to find a way to get some foam in there, if not oh well. Its not that bad...

Well, I picked the truck up a few hours ago and they said the sealant was bad on the diff. cover. The Sealant??? I find out there isnt a gasket for these covers and they just seal them up with form-a-gasket! To top it off they used orange silicone to replace the old. It looks like crap! But oh well, I guess it's not gonna leak.... I hope!

Oh and the rattle? They blamed that on 2 out of round tires, they are going to get me 2 new tires and see if this helps it any.

You sure there isn't a gasket? You should always use a gasket and sealant.

No gasket!!Wow,won't be last leak if so.

I agree with Sammy S.If there isn't a gasket, this sure won't be the last leak.Surfaces have to be nearly perfect to get away with just sealant. Can anyone check a service manual.I guess they are correct, but it doesn't thrill me.If it becomes a problem they can retrofit a gasket.Charlie

Sealant no gasket

The days of gaskets are gone. The Dakota I had did'nt have them on the diffs or the tranny. An awful lot of parts that used to have gaskets now rely on the RTVs alone. I had an SHO that had no gaskets on the valve covers. As long as you step torque the fastners in a cross pattern to the specs you'll have no problems. At least I have'nt so far (knock on wood).

I don't know about that, I have built alot of small block chevy's and we have always thrown away the end intake gaskets and used silicone and there is almost a 1/4 inch gap on each end.

And yes i'm sure there is no gasket, I made the guy show me the diagram of the rear parts.

It might be a Nissan thing or just a pick-up thing those rattles. My fronti started rattling up a storm about a year into ownership. I'd take it in, the service dept. would batten down the hatches, and about a couple months later it would start rattling again. Not a big deal really since otherwise the truck was bulletproof.

I do understand however that we all paid good money for a brand new truck so why should there be any rattles? I guess I am just saying that when my Titan starts rattling, I will be grateful that that will be the only problem and happily accept the nuisance (in hopes ofcourse that my Titan experience is as good as my Frontier experience -- excellent product). I just hope the rattles don't start for ATLEAST a year -- we should be guarenteed a one year show-off period where the truck is free of rattles.

Anyway, 200 miles down now on the new Titan and purring like a kitten. Just put a Magnaflow dual exhaust on and I am very happy with that. Thus far I am logging the gas MPG at around 14.75 MPG mixed city/highway driving. A Volant intake is on the way.

Take care all!

High Temperature gasket-in-a-toothpaste tube. I'm sure it's fine. I use that stuff to make sure I get a good fit on valve covers when I'm playing with small blocks.

A little Orange Goo and being without the truck is a whole lot better than leaving your truck in pieces in the back of the shop while it waits for a "nationally backordered" gasket.

It seems every part we've needed for the Titan is "nationally backordered".
Of course, that might be dealerspeak for "too lazy to make the order".

My 1971 Corvette still has the original paper differential gasket. Go fig!
