Where are the Airbags?

I was out shopping for Titans again. The local dealer has 20+ and said he would sell to me for $1K below invoice. But, not a single truck on his lot had the side airbag package.

What's up with that?

Part of the reason I am considering the truck is for the 5 speed tranny and the airbag/safety features. I told him I wanted the airbags, and he said "Why would you want those? The truck did great in the crash tests this week."

Anyone have any insight into why so few Titans are built with the side airbag package?

Probably because the packages are so large and cannot be broken up. In other words in order to get the air bags, you must also get all sorts of other things which ultimately results in a 38,000 dollar truck. That may be fine for some people, but for the vast majority, its just too much. Nissan needs to make their options a little more chooser friendly. I wanted the sunroof, but it was 5000 dollars due to the NAV system and DVD player that I had to have in order to get it.

They aren't really common,but XE's most reasonable

There are a fair number of Side curtain-side airbag Titans out there, but as noted by vshortt they get bundled with so much stuff,it drives the price up.
I bought a base XE 2WD KC side airbag-pp for $22,600-about $2000 under MSRP a month or so ago.I paid the OK price because I wanted the Side curtains, and they weren't very common on base trucksNot a great price-under invoice- like some have reported, but I'm happy with my deal.I got what I wanted, and it cost me just $7500 more than I got for my used Tundra.Got a safer(side curtains+ great crash test),much faster truck with a back seat that is actually adult usable for 30 minutes.
On SE's the side package requires you get,PP,Offroad,Big Tow,Utility bed also.On a 2wd SE CC a good price would be ~28500 now on that.A LE , side curtain,2wd required either the power sun roof,or NAV,I think.$31000 might be OK on it.Just guessing, but they are there, just not so common.Charlie

One more thing. Right before you walk away from that goofball salesman to go elsewhere, let him know that the side impact airbags have no bearing on the test that was performed earlier this week. That was for a frontal offset at 40 miles per hour. If they did no side impact test, then how would he have any idea how a person might fair in that type of crash. Shows a helluva lot of concern for his customers. Tell him to take a hike.

Airbags

Yeah, I told the guy that the tests were Frontal crash tests only.

My response to him when he asked me why I wanted the airbags was "Why wouldn't I want them?"

And I agree the airbags should be availalbe seperately. The only option I wouldn't be interested in is the Offroad package, but I think you need to get that with the big tow package anyways...

Re: Where are the Airbags?

I wanted curtains too when i started looking for my truck, had to go without due to the huge add-ons needed.

I think the packaging options are unique to the truck. I tried checking out options for Chebys and GMCs and I was just overwhelmed, I actually liked the simplicity of the Titan's options, but in the airbag situation I was set back.

Hate to say it but I checked out the Ridgeline too and one of the points that almost made me buy was the fact that all the models come with every safety feature stock. So you can't buy one without curtains.

Stick with the Titan, get the options with the curtain, you will like the added features anyways....

Re: Where are the Airbags?
