Howdy,
My name is Bob, and I’m a new Titan owner (do I need therapy?).
This is my first full-size pick-up! My last three vehicles, since 1987, have been Isuzu Troopers – great SUV’s. I’ve lusted after a pick-up ever since Dodge came out with the HEMI. I eliminated the Dodge early because of poor gas mileage. That left the Ford Super Crew until the Titan came on the scene.
How did I decide between the two? Easy! I went to the NHTSA web site for defects and recalls –
www.odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/home.cfm. There I looked at consumer complaints and Technical Service Bulletins for both the 2004 Ford F150 and the 2004 Nissan Titan. The Titan had four complaints (three radio-related, one where the transmission “Magically” jumped into reverse) and no TSB’s the F150 had several pages of both, many appearing to be serious.
I’m not giving my money to a company with a track record like Ford! After all, the new F150 is supposed to be so great that I thought they’d at least build it better than they have in the past.
I, too, have the usual radio problems – the rear seat remote controller doesn’t allow much volume, neither front or rear controller turns all speakers off when you push the speaker/headphone switch, and with a headphone volume is weak.
I’ve had my Titan over two month’s and I haven’t had any other problems. Gas mileage has ranged from 10.89 to 15.71 around town. It is as good around town as my Trooper was, if I get a hold of myself. These things just want to GO. I think I’m young, dumb, and stupid again.
I just took an 807.6 mile trip through the mountains and highways of northern New Mexico and south eastern Colorado. First leg 256.4 miles/11.914 gallons = 21.52 miles per gallon. Wow!!! Second leg 263.2 miles/15.279 gallons = 17.22 miles per gallon. This was with A/C and all Interstate at 65-68 mph. Third leg, lots of mountains, no A/C, 288 miles/14.152 gallons = 20.35 miles per gallon. Wow!!! Again! Trip average was 19.533. This was an unloaded truck with no cover over the bed. Fantastic! I was worried about gas mileage, but this Titan is better than my last two V-6 Troopers, and as good as my first 4 cylinder Trooper. All of that from a 5000+ pound V-8 pick-up.
I love it!!!
