Exclamation iPod connection via aux. input?

I was wondering about the best way to hook up an iPod via the aux port. I did a search for iPod and found some old threads explaining the issue that I am experiencing with my iPod; that being having to crank the volume on the iPod and the truck to get it to a volume level that it is acceptable. Being as most of the threads were a little old, I was wondering if anybody has found the definitve way to connect the Ipod via the aux input and maintain a sound level that it annoying to others outside the the cab while sitting in traffic! I like my music loud, and the aux port is the best way to gain the best sound, but it is not loud at all! Kinda frustrating. I know that some of you have recommended using one of the car chargers that may have an line out versus using the hedphone line out, which seems to be the root of the problem. Just wondering what success anyone has had and where to find said product, or if there are any other solutions.

You need the Monster Cable Ultra Low Profile Charger w/ Dock Connector. This will allow you to use the iPod's line-out instead of the headphone jack. Here is a link:

http://www.monstercable.com/productPage.asp?pin=2132

You will also need a stereo mini-plug cable to go from the Monster Charger to the AUX input on the Titan. This setup will allow you to charge the iPod and play the unit simultaneously. Your iPod volume control will not affect the volume in your Titan. The Titan stereo volume knob will control the volume. I find the volume to be sufficient.

Thanks for the help. I thought that either the Monster or the Belkin car charger was probably the way to go, but wasn't sure. Saw that some guys were possibly building some sort of "booster" or amplifier, but wasn't sure.
Thanks again Hog!!!

Deeger- You have any pictures of the setup? Sounds real clean. Not a lot of wires running around. Do the cables for your mp3 player have some slack in them or is it set up like a docking station? I like to be able to occasionaly pick up my iPod and switch songs/albums/artists/ etc. That is if I can avoid getting in a wreck while doing so!

I have a belkin hard wired in behind the dash. I would say that you porbablyneed one of those amps that deeger recommended. I just havent got around to installing one. for those that do have these pre amps installed could I get a wire diagrams as I counfused as to how to really wire the thing in.

How did you hardwire the belkin charger in? Are you still having the sound issues described by some even with running a stereo cable b/t the output on the charger and the aux. input? Sound issues being turning everything up full to get decent sound level.

1) bought a extra cigarrette lighter from radio shack
2) bought a belkin car charger for the ipod--that connects to the base of the ipod
3) a simple male to male stereo cable
4) spliced the cigarrette lighter power to the purple 12volt power line off the harness off the back of the deck ( from the AC) so when you turn the car on the ipod comes on, when you turn the car off it automatically goes into pause mode
5) grounded the cigarette lighter to the top mouting screw for the deck(attached a ring teminal to the wire to make it easier)
6) taped the belkin to the cigarette lighter (make sure it is pressed all the way in)
7) unscrew the aux connector, and plug in one end of the male to male connector, the other end goes to the belkin,
8) Route the ipod cable either under the cup holder ( as I have it right now), or through the top of the dash where the black rubber peice sits below the center speaker( I plan on doing this later--so I can use the dock)

pretty easy and the parrts are only ike $20 bucks

oh and in re: to the sound ---yes is still low, but better than going through the headphone jack into the aux inpput, the sound output from the bottom of the ipod is way cleaner, and louder. to match up the aux sound to the cd sound you will have to add one of those amps--I personally havent gotten around to it yet.

yes I have only one cable showing that I ran from behind the dash...under the carpet to under the front seat then up into my center console where I keep my mp3 player. you could run this cable to anywhere you wanted to keep the player though

Smoketitan

I might get motivated and take some pictures this weekend...so keep an eye out for them. The wiring is pretty simple just a power wire and a ground. I can point you to which wire to tap into for power

just saw your post...I used the same purple wire and ground location that you used for you cig adapter

Smoke, here is the AUX jack (I think thats the wiring diagram you were asking for) I went from the line amp with RCA's to splitter (Y cable) with a male mini jack on it. I got a female mini jack with no wires on it from Radio Shack and put three wires on it (L+, R+ and common ground) and tied it into the AUX jack.

Smoke-
Thanks for the info. Think I might have to try that. Being as I am not real auto savvy (trained as a carpenter, now a project manager) just want to clarify your setup a little for me.
If my understanding is correct:
1)The cig lighter is spliced into the purple wiring behind the dash off the back of the deck.
2)Then belkin plugged into and taped to lighter.
3) One male end plugged into belkin output near cig lighter. Other end running into aux input. (still a little uinclear on that one. Input removed from dash completly? Left with hole in dash?)
4) 30 pin end of the charger running underneath the center console, and coming up through the cupholder. (best way to come up though? cutting?)
5) Dash reassembled with extra cig lighter et.al. tucked behind dash.

Is my thinking correct? Hate to sound like a complete dumbass, but sometimes I am! But your wiring sounds like what I am looking to do. Sounds good. Let me know. Thanks.
