I don't want to get into a pi$$ing contest, but for my needs the Stroke will meet more of them than the Titan. I finally found a Smoke Crew w/ Offroad and Big-Tow and went to buy the sucker. After the test drive I was un-impressed. I like the Titan and if I was purely buying a 1/2 ton, it would be my #1 choice. But I'm spoiled by the Stroke. It will roast my 33" BFG's while pulling a 19' Ranger. The Titan was too tame. Even the salesman said people are complaining about it being too car-like. I loved the layout, but the switch gear on the dash seemed too weak, the seat material felt way too thin, I could see a pair of pliers in my britches really tearing up the Leather and the Cloth. The bed on the Crew is 'tiny'. It also seems the back seat area is bigger than the fronts. The mini-me tow hooks on the front looked weird too. The sheet metal on the hood and doors seemed a little thin. The RF radio was fading bad, and the brakes were terrible. A Goose-neck filled with heifers would eat these brakes lunch.
My towing needs aren't too far above the Titan's capabilities, but I'd rather exceed them with my equipment than merely meet them.
For a city truck, the Titan would be great. But for working out in the pasture, I'll keep the Ford.
Thanks for the great site and all the advice. I wish you guys luck with what seems to be the best 1/2 ton money can buy right now.
When Nissan drops in a Turbo Diesel and a real size bed, I might be back.
Nissan hit a home run with this one. I hope the Domestics really get into this war, we all win when that happens.

Well stated. Good luck and hopefully we will see ya back when Nissan inevitably releases a diesel version. One that will, no doubt, make the Power Stroke choke. See ya.

I use my Titan for work and tow and haul a lot of stuff. It is not a HD diesel but I have been amazed at how well it does compared to our HD trucks. I don't have the brake problem that you complained about. When it is empty the Titan is a whole different story compared to a Diesel. It is much sportier in how it feels than a HD diesel. Off road the Titan can get around in places without making a track that my diesels just tear up deep tracks. That extra weight on the front end makes a big difference in how it feels and gets around.

Very well said. The truth is competition is good for all makes. I have seen this many times though. Once you go diesel its hard to go back to gas engines. I am sure any large gas engine could pull a 19' ranger, but after you pull it with a diesel its very hard to change. Fact is any diesel is gonna pull better then any gas engine regardless of what anyone thinks. Its the nature of a diesel. As far as the long bed. That was the major factor for me not getting a Titan. I need the long bed, and its not offered. I think nissan needs too expand there titan product line to benifit more then just one user. RCLB would be a great addition to the titan lineup. Also a diesel would be a great addition also. To add a diesel they need to add to there lineup though. I mean why put a diesel in there current version without a work truck version of there truck. I figure it may all come together.
I'm sure the Titan can hold its own towing stuff. Its a really capable 1/2 Ton. The Titan did feel sporty, that's for sure. Sporty isn't what I expect in a 4X4 work truck though, I guess I'm old fashioned.
I'm sure its better off-road too. I made the mistake of going OFF!!! Road once in the Stroke. I decided to call it the Power-Sink. I mainly use 4X4 when launching steep ramps or getting a really large load started on grass or gravel. Its no rock crawler that's for sure. It will pull fence posts, stumps and rocks like a friggin train...
After I sunk my Stroke, I bought a 4X4 Yamaha Grizzly, now that thing will go OFF-ROAD!!! And it fits in the bed of my truck with the tail-gate up with room to spare! The tiny bed in the Titan Crew was probably the biggest negative factor for me. And the City Interior.
Good luck with your Titan. I still like to see em on the road, great looking trucks. Hope Toyota jumps in too, The Big 3 have needed their *** whooped in truck development for 25+ years!

I have a 2003 6.0L Turbo-Diesel. Powerstroke is Ford's brand name on their diesels. Actually, International builds the engines and sells them to Ford. Isuzu makes the Chevy Duramax Engine, Cummins the Dodge Engine. If I could get a Cummins in a Ford I'd be 100% Happy. The Fords have had some issues with computer mapping since International builds the motors, Ford supplies the computer.
My motor puts out 320HP and almost 600ft./lbs of torque. Today I filled up and got 18.3MPG It was all highway and would have been 20MPG in a previous generation Powerstroke.

I'm glad I was wearing my SARCASM proof boots. The 19' Ranger is the lightest thing I pull. 5 or 10 cows get pretty heavy pretty quick. Round bales aren't light either.
Getting 14MPG ripping that boat through the Ozarks last week wasn't that bad however. Bull Shoals is WAY UP!! Probably the best Skiing lake I've seen, too bad I was chasing bass...

You would think that after all these years that Ford and others would have
their own diesel engine. Doesn't GM own Detroit Diesel? They own Allison
Transmissions, and are finally advertising them for smaller trucks. Guess they
don't want to spend all that R&D money to come out with their own engine.
Remember that gas engine that GM converted to diesel? How many of those
are still around?
I think Nissan did a good job with the Titan in a first year offering. Maybe in
the future they might come out with more HD models that will meet the needs of working guys like Power Stroke. Right now I think that's too much to ask.
How about a 3/4 ton Titan with a twin-turbo diesel designed and built by
Caterpillar? How would the Dodge/Cummins boys like that one?

The sarcasm may not have been warranted in your case, but I hear the same from a lot of guys trying to justify spending the money and enduring the drawbacks to buying a bigger truck. I tell them that I've seen a lot of 24'-26' offshore boats being pulled by 1/2 ton trucks. I also see a lot of minivans pulling boats in the <20' range. I had a fishing buddy that pulled his 20' Aquasport with a 4 cylinder Mazda truck.
Again, I agree you sound like you may need to stay with a working truck. The Titan is definately not one.
