Good article. He didn't pull any punches with the Big 3. I didn't realize how few compact trucks are sold every year compared to full size.

I thought there were a lot more Tundra's sold than that too. The Big 3 really dominate that market.

Next fall Toyota will have a new Tacoma, bigger and with some hot engines (the top one has 300 horsepower).
With him saying that, the new Tundra will have to be atleast at 350 when it comes out, tacomas now are at 190, tundra at 240.....

I dont think the new Tundra will have that much HP. Maybe 290hp. Toyota goes on the principle that people really don't need that much Hp when you really think about it. They've done fairly well so far. Most of their customers are not die-hard truck enthusiasts so they will be satisfied with even 250HP. If anything I think Toyota (Tundra) leads the way for non-diehards. Most Americans now want a big vehicle - but don't necessarily care about the intricate details of 4.7 litre vs 5.6 L or 240HP vs 305. There are enough non-diehards out there to cause some market share problems for the big 3 and even Nissan. So from a business stand point thats pretty smart for Toyota. Nissan on the other hand has made a huge statement with the Titan. But only the big 3 are really shuddering in terms of market share. Nissan has to find a way to take some shares from Toyota. That way Nissan will be more lethal.

WOW.. I seriously doubt a 120 horse power jump from last year's model. That's probably not going to happen. MAYBE with the blower, but that is a rarely purchased option.

I think your all underestimating Toyota. According to the article they probably will end the year with the #1 compact pu with a new Tacoma model in the market by the end of the year. And they are building a second plant in Texas for the new Tundra model which I expect to have a new 5+ liter motor in the 300 hp/350 tq area. Once that happens they will be more in a position to challenge the Big 3 than Nissan.

Frankly I don't care what Toyota does with the Tundra or the Tacoma.
I'm buying a Titan.

Nice! I love dry humor...
That part where they said it was not as good as the former offering made me shake. I owned a new '94 S10, top of the line extended cab 4x4. I sold it at 32,000 miles because it was such a pile of crap!

I will admit though, I had no idea Toyota sold that many Tacomas and how far behind the Frontier really is.
