Brake Dust...Best way to get ride of it ?

I am sure you have noticed how quickly and how much the brake dust accumulates on the rims. What is everyone doing to remove the dust other then detailing with a wet rag? Any effective spray solutions worth trying?

Deal with the dust. After about 5,000 miles it drastically diminishes- a dude on this forum (JetTech I think) told me this and he was right.

Not really....cleaner will help loosen it up.

Best thing to do is make sure you put a good coat of wax on the wheels. This helps make it a little easier to clean off come wash day.

Armor All

I use the "Armora All" spray on wheel cleaner (silver bottle). Seems to work well to loosen grime. I stick me hands through openings in rim and wipe as much as possible the inside of rim and then rinse well. Have been using since new and wheels look great everytime. READ and FOLLOW the directions as I understand if you leave it on to long it can etch the finish. Like others here have said, it does lessen as you get more miles on truck.

Eagle One A2Z wheel cleaner does a pretty good job, if there is a real heavy spot you have to go back and get it with a brush or rag. Spray it on and you can see the dust running off.

I followed the advice of an early poster, Lemon Pledge wipes, has to be lemon. I don't know why it works but the dust doesn't seem to stick to the wheels. After I used it the dust wasn't an issue any longer.

Get a soft wheel brush to get back in behind the spokes. Armour All helps but I'm not sure it's worth the price since it didn't get the back/inside of the wheels very well. Using the brush every time you wash and it's relatively quick without a large buildup to deal with.

I don't like spraying anything corrosive on polished rims, some stuff damages finish. I just wipe mine down when I wash with car wash soap, and give a quick wipe down with wet towel/rag in between washes. You would probably have to do it daily to keep them really clean!

Wheel washing tip.

I always make sure to use a separate bucket and wash mitt or sponge on the wheels as I don't think the brake dust is good for the paint. If you use a tire dressing (I use Black Majic), cut out a 17" or 18" diameter cirlcle out of a cardboard box to hold over the wheels when you are spraying on the tire dressing to keep the oversray off the wheels. I've noticed that the brake dust sticks to the wheels more if I don't do this. Also, a good way to clean the white letters on the tire is a stiff wire brush (I use one that is used to clean my barbeque grill) and some Ajax. Be careful not to scrub the rim as the Ajax (very abrasive) and the wire brush will certainly scratch it.
Hope this helps.
