Engine Cleaning?

I've never been much of a fanatic of dressing up an engine, just like to keep it generally clean. Does anybody have some good do at home tips for cleaning the engine bay? I would like to keep my underhood looking real clean without flogging anything up.

I heard Simple Green is good?

Alittle trick i learned from some dealers way back when i was 17 and worked in the wash bay at a dealer. its still done to this day. Regualar armor all. spray it on, and let it drip off. Dont wash off. Dont worry it wont hurt belts or anything. Just spray and drip dry. Sort of like tire foam. Its the same thing. Try it, and let me know what you think..

be careful with simple green and the exterior paint, its a real great wax stripper.

Thats a good pointer.

Also, if it gets really nasty under there...take it to a car wash (let the engine cool) use the tire cleaner/engine degreaser FIRST.

Then, touch it up with the armor all.......Good idea, BudmanHemi.

use nothing but simple green, it leaves no ash, water stains, or residue.

I don't think I would do this!!

I think you can trust BudmanHemi. He gives good advice, unlike some of
the Ford trolls that slimed their way in here today.

Well I don't know about spraying the whole engine down, but I do spray ArmorAll on a rag and wipe down all the hoses and black plastic parts. It looks nice. The rest of the engine I hose off quickly and then just wipe down with a rag. If done often you will not get alot of build up.

I've always used Simple Green. Just spray it on, works if the engine is still warm, then hose it off. Just be careful about getting it on the paint like someone else pointed out.

Tightisright has been banned, thanks to someone reporting the post.

That will report it to all moderators.

As far as me cleaning my engine, I like to use simple green in all the bad areas, then go over it afterwards with special engine "dressing" that makes it nice and black and shiny... but I have used armor all in a pinch and it worked fine and didnt attract dust like some people told me it would.
