Can you pull a 5th wheel with a CC.

Im in the market for a Crew Cab 4x4 Titan, the guys at the dealer couldnt answer me my question, simply is there enough room to pull a 5th wheel trailer with the bed of a crew cab? I saw one the members with a picture hooked up to a 5th wheel trailer, but hes got a King Cab, which means hes got a longer bed. If anybody knows please enlighten me, thank you.

It's going to vary depending on how the 5th hooks up, clearance for the particular model, etc.

If you have the 5th, or are thinking about buying one, then most definately talk the dealer into letting you drive it down so that it can be "test fitted".

Should be as simple as that, and then the dealer will know the answer, too

Not positive but I thought the manual stated that the CC could not pull a 5th wheel. Not sure why but I do recall seeing that and thinking that it would really be bad to buy a truck and find this out later..Ask the dealer to read the manual.

The only problems I could see is overloading the rear axle or violating the GVWR of the
vehicle if your fifth wheel pin weight was too high and/or you had four big people in
the cab. With full tank of gas, 200lb driver, KC 4x4,Big Tow, Off road, Utility, my unit
weighs 5650 with a GVWR of 6500. This leaves 850lbs for passengers truck cargo and
fifth wheel pin weight. Add another person and stuff in the back seat you are down to
around 500lbs left in GVWR. The front (FAWR) is 3500lbs and the rear (RAWR) is 3800lbs. So the GVWR is less than the sum of the front and back axle ratings. You are
not likely to exceed the rear axle weight rating but could easily exceed the GVWR if
you picked the wrong rig to tow or had too much cargo or people in the truck. The other problem could be the high walls on the bed which could cause interference problems with many fifth wheels. Subtract 80 lbs for no tailgate. No problems with tow
performance.

Chepdog,

There's a type of 5th wheel hitch called an 'extension hitch'. Lots of folks with short-bed trucks use them.

In any case, your trouble would come in backing, where you would be limited on the amount of turn by the front of the fiver hitting the back of the cab.

Essentially the hitch unlocks and allows the pin to be moved toward the back of the truck. Maybe somebody here who's had one can tell us more about it.

Hey thanks for the great replys guys, im not an actual Titan owner yet, i still would like Nissan to fix minor bugs out; and plus im in the process of purchasing a home and they recommend me not to purchase anything major. As far as the moveable 5th wheels im aware of those, my buddy has one on his F250 short bed crew cab, although his bed is longer than the Titans i would really like to pull a 5th wheel trailer due to better handling and a little more room, but if not i'll get me a Titan CC 4x4 SE or LE, and a 28' to 32 foot trailer, i figured it weigh about 7,000 lbs to 7,500 empty and 8,000 fully loaded not to shabby. Well hopefully escrow closes very soon and i could sell this Expedition of mine for a Titan, by the way if anybody interested in buying a 2000 Expedition 4x4 Eddie Bauer White, leather, running boards, power, heated seats, backup sensors, cassete with 6 cd changer, 3rd seat, chrome wheels etc. It has a paxton supercharger 8psi, which i might include if price is right. JBA headers, full custom catback with 3' exhaust, diablo chipped, granatelli mass airflow sensor, 78mm throttle body, 2 16' electric fans, 255lph summit racing gas pump, intake, underdrive pulley, tranny cooler, and other things i might be missing, really tricked out, never ran it at the track but i can stay beside a 2000 plus mustang gt no problem, so i figure a mid 14 second to low 14 second runs, not bad for a 5900 pound suv which includes me. Im just tired of Ford products.

I purchased a Titan LE 4X4 crew cab and was told it would pull a 5th wheel, by the dealership, I now have a complaint in against the dealership with the BBB. The problem is there is not enough clearence when making turns for the gooseneck it could cause the vehicle to over turn, beside the bed must be at least 6 1/2 ft.

I guess that answers my question, good to know, they should out this quote in the sticky forums, so people know that pulling a 5th wheel with a CC is not a good idea. Hey thanks again for the replys, of course you guys know this wont stop me from buying a Titan, i'll just pull a regular trailer.
