Folks, it's been a long road to finally purchasing a Titan and the saga continues. I finally had my local dealer locate a Red Brawn LE CC with the options I wanted at a dealer in Jersey. He has it driven over (I"m sure the driver never exceeded 45 mph and no rabbit starts ).
I figure I'll go tonight and run through the checklist published on this site, with the idea that if everything is ok, I'll be back in the AM with a cashiers check.
Well, I start inspecting the truck... the first problem is a deep gouge in the right-hand side passengers body side molding. No big deal, right. Small scrath under the right hand side mirror. Then I get to the left side.... someone obviously keyed the truck, with varying results , from the driver's side door right to the left rear quarter panel. I say varying results because I could Gliptone most of the scratch out (I think). BUT, there are several spots where the scratches go right to the quick. Needless to say, I'm disappointed.
And, the front tires seem to have worn quite a bit of tread out, with only 93.5 miles on the truck.
Now, this dealer has been a royal pain in the ***... I had one sales guy, he disappears and I have to threaten to pull my business and go else where. So they give me the trainee. Then, I get the junior sales guy. They originally had the vehicle I wanted a month ago, but sold it (while they held my deposit). They gave me a price of $3k below MSRP + $1000 rebate. The truck stickers at $39600 and is out the door at $35050. On top of this, they made me a trade-in offer of 7600 on my 10-year old truck.
So, I figure the truck that they're delivering to me is damaged even before I drive it off of the lot. I'm considering offering them $1500-2000 less + plus they buff. Or I walk. I pull my deposit and go find another dealer (the other dealer in Huntington is a REAL asshole) 50 miles away.
What do you guys think?

don't do it unless your satisfied with the truck. If you do buy this one you'll always be pissed because it didn't come in the condition you expect.....There's got to be another dealer within driving distance for you that will accomodate you and get you a better truck.
Don't walk away, run, and run as fast as you can! From your description of this dealer and the condition of the truck in question, I can't imagine doing business with them whatsoever.

I don't know about you but when I want something new, it better be new.
Worn tires, keyed exterior and a pain-in-the-*** attitude...I wouldn't even bother.
If I'm paying 35K for a truck, it better be perfect.
If you have other dealers, try talking to the internet managers via email or phone first. You'll avoid all the rookie sales guys that way, not to mention usually a no-haggle price.
When I bought my truck, I went through my insurance company (they offer a negotiating service so you don't have to haggle) and after the $1000 rebate, the price was down to $700 below invoice. Anyway, they go through the internet manager. If you can find out where the next closest dealer is (after the a-hole dealer), contact them and see what you can get from them. They may be totally aware of the service the other two dealers give and to obtain your business, will kiss your rear and make it worth taking a drive down there to check their operation out. There is one dealership here (non-Nissan - 10 mins from where I live) that wouldn't let me have my car back while they were "working a deal" (they started at a cost I ended up driving off the lot with @ the dealer 20 miles away). Anyway, you might even try the dealer in Jersey that he got it from (if that is a viable drive for you to do)

I have been dealing with the internet manager... he's been 'missing' for the last 5 days. Really. He arranged to locate the latest truck and then he's gone. That's when I got little Jimmy, earning his way through school ("...that's below invoice. You want to pay less than invoice? " ).
The decision I'm wrestling with is if I should offer 1500 to 2000 less than the original amount. I can take care of most of the scratches. There is one, though, that is clearly through to the quick. I'm betting the sales mgr figures most rubes wouldn't even check for such scratches, therefore, he wouldn't take the bid.
On the other hand, most of your responses are dead on. I'm buying a new truck. It's a new truck with fresh tires and a virtually flawless paint job that I'm after.
BTW, Gliptone is one of the few waxes that can blend fairly deep scratches back into the paint. Mind you, the scratch is not repaired nor does it go away. But it is obscured for a few rainfalls.
I would certainly say, like others have, just walk out the door and never look back. Why deal with people that are like that period! In my opinion, it shows their lack of interest in giving you a sub-par vehicle. What will offering 1500 to 2000 less do...you still have a truck that should be in immaculent condition. The things you mentioned that are wrong with it is what you have found so far....what happens when you drive off the lot and are doing your normal thing and something else fails (other than what we have already seen numerous times posted here). I personally would leave them with it....they deserve to be stuck with something they went to NJ to get and ended up having in poor condition and unable to sell to the customer who originally wanted it. Good Luck

You put a deposit down on a truck and then they sold it? I wouldn't give them the sweat off my b@lls. They obviously just sold it to someone who wasn't able to negotiate as good a price as you. I would definitely NOT take the damaged truck. Why should you have to buff anything that is new, whether it's a 35K truck or an 8k Yugo?Run away whiule you still can. Be patient.....it will be worth the wait! There are HUNDREDS of CLEAN new Titans out there.

The price is still above invoice. Take your cashiers check and go somewhere else.
