QX56 5.6 VS Titan 5.6

Anybody know why the Infiniti QX56 5.6 produces 315hp and 390lb-ft of torque and our 5.6 does 305hp with 379lb-ft of torque?

Different computer maybe?

shorter intake, shorter exhaust, different computer tune, but my money is on a slightly different cam. I would like to compare the power curves of the two motors. juma

The Armada is rated at 305hp with 385lb-ft of torque, I believe the QX56 has different computer software that sets the timing more aggresive thus needing the premium fuel.

I personally like the fact that I can run 87 octane in my Armada and not need the 91 octane for .15 to .20 cents more a gallon . the difference in power is not worth it in my opinion.

The QX56 also weighs 400+ plus lbs more than the Armada.

Spartan,

All that extra sound-deadener, no doubt.

Anyone have any experience with the Ziebart or other spray-on sound deadener? I'm interested in getting some applied to my Armada.

I raised this question a while back, and although nobody had a definite answer, there was a lot of speculation on:
- revised ECU programming to take advantage of higher octane
- revised air intake
- revised exhaust

Its hard to say, we know for a fact the titan produces more power than its rated at, dyno results and 1/4 mile math prove that. Here's my theory. The armada, titan and qx56 are internally similar, I do believe a cam difference is a possibility but for cost reasons I kind of doubt it, at least with the armada and titan. I would bet each has a different map in the computer optimized for each vehicles typical purpose. Also there is some genius in marketing an engine in a under rated fashion. Less say it produces 400 ft/lbs of torque. Best in class is currently 375 ft/lbs before your engine is released, so just say its 379, your still best in class and you also have put yourself in a position to one up your competition if they make a move without virtually spending any money in the process. Call it a computer tweak and ride the laurels of this fabulous engine you’ve designed.
I think Nissan should have added variable valve timing to the vk56 in the QX 56. After all it is pretty much your flagship you should offer your top technology, and this is the market that can afford it. Also how long will it be before Nissan decides to go after the viper, cobra and Z06 and offer a 400+h.p version of this engine in a Z type chassis. The current VK56 block could certainly handle that and in my mind probably more h.p. than even an LS6. The Nissan 560ZX -kind of has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it.

hmm..maybe this is it, "And while the basic V8 engine is the same as the Titan's, the difference here is primarily in engine mapping and the requirement for the use of premium fuel, which contribute to a horsepower boost of 10-hp."

I wonder if it would be possible to remap the Titan computer to match the QX56.

they probably put out the same underrated hp. the only difference is, infinity doesnt want to have the exact same powerplant as a nissan truck so they list different #s to separate itself. i bet they are exactly the same, the TITAN and ARMADA are just moreunderrated.

The test results show the QX56 has more power. It does seem like it is a more agressive tune so it needs premium fuel. It would seem that you could retune for the extra power if you were willing to burn premium fuel. Around here premium is only about 10 cents more so it isn't a big difference. it would only take about a 6% increase in fuel economy to pay for it.
