Belt noise on startup?

So my 08 LE w/ 46k on the clock makes a racket of belt noise on startup. Some squeaking and tapping. Is this normal? I bought it used so I don't know exactly what has been done to it as far as maintenance goes.

Re: Belt noise on startup?

Every once in a while, when it's really hot, wet & humid outside, mine will squeak for a few second's when i first start it, after sitting all night. I goes right away though...

Re: Belt noise on startup?

Take it to the dealer. There's an issue with the belt tensioner apparenty. They replaced the tensioner and belt under warranty. And I only have 25k on my 08.

Re: Belt noise on startup?

Lightly spray some water on the underside of the belt while you hear that noise. If the noise disappears immediately, replace the belt. I'm running the Goodyear Gatorback 97.5" serpentine belt.

Re: Belt noise on startup?

spray some belt dressing on the belt before you start it and see if it does it.

NEVER use belt dressing on a serpentine belt.

Do not apply “belt dressing” to a serpentine belt in an attempt to quiet a belt or cure slipping. Belt dressing is a gooey, tar-like substance designed to cure V belt slipping by making the belt sticky. At best, it is a temporary palliative, even on a V belt. But, when applied to a serpentine belt, the dressing will be spread into the pulley grooves. Once there, it will attract and hold dirt and grit. The dirt will start the belt slipping again and all of the dirt and belt dressing will have to be cleaned out of the pulley grooves before a new belt is installed.

I have just learned to deal with it. I have had the TSB done and it came back. Mine only does it during the winter for a few seconds.

Re: Belt noise on startup?

Replace the belt! My belt started making noise at 20k (08 XE) Nissan was happy to replace it, and wash the truck! Sometimes the stealerships are good for something!!
