As there will be no Diesel for sometime, I decided today to get the KC/XC (Canteen) and went to make the deal.
1. Price was $18999 - Own Financing
2. $19999 with 1.9% APR NMAC financing
3. I have the Frontier Desert Runner financed through NMAC
4. I qualified for the 1.9%
5. I asked for 72 months @ 1.9% and settlement of the Frontier ($11k)
6. They gave me 72 months @ 8.2% and trade-in of $9k on the Frontier.
Result - No deal.
Oh well it was asking a bit much but at least I tried. If Nissan are still stuck with a couple of Titans and want to go for a 1.9%/72 month deal, and settlement of the Frontier, let me know.
Yeah, I got 1.9% for 60 months but upon strict instructions from my government, (read wife), was not to exceed the current truck payment. Only a 72 month at 1.9% can do that. Also going upside down on the Frontier does not help either.
I'll just have to wait and pay down the Frontier and hope in the meantime NMAC offer the 1.9% on 72 months. They do have a 72 month plan but at 8.2%. OUCH!
Get this, there is only $15 dollars difference between 60 and 72 months!
I wanted to do this but changed plans during the deal. Buy the truck and get the 1.9% financing now while it being offered. Sell the frontier on the open market and bankroll or invest that sum and use it to make the monthly payments on the Titan. If you get a payment $360/ month on a 60 month loan to cover and get 11K for the Frontier you have 30.5 months of NO truck payment at all!! In 2 1/2 years your income will probably be more and half of the loan term has gone by. Additionally if you are the disciplined type you can take your current truck payment and save it in a rat hole while you are using up the equity on the Frontier and still further defer your 360 or whatever a month payment into the future. A note of caution is that you do not take on additional debt in lieu of the truck payment during this period as this will derail the scheme.
Sorry you couldn't get a Titan for the deal you wanted, but don't expect us to be able to help you. We are Titan owners, not Nissan dealers.
rrumaner, why would you post a reply like this? He wasn't asking anything from anybody, just wanted to start a conversation, just like every other thread. I know if I was new to the site and got a reply like that it would turn me away from this board (which in my opinion should be mentioned in the Titan Owner's manual somewhere), especially from someone who has "Super Moderator" under their name. I just don't get it.
Howzit, sorry it didn't work out dude, it will only get better.
I also had a similiarexperience... I ended up with 72 mos. at 5.9%.. still ouch, but I wanted a lower payment. My other option was 60 mos. @3.9. This was back in February though. Alot has changed... thankfully
Try Autotrading your truck (sell it yourself), you will atleast break even on it.
I think everyone is probably upside down in their cars, vehicles are VERY rarely an investment, usually just a liability. If you make your payment on time, just the required amount, you are almost always in the truck for more than its worth. The day you drove your Frontier (or new Titan) off the lot, you probably lost money.
Good luck dude!
Without knowing the full details of your truck..its hard to tell if they were lowballing you on your trade (Most do for sure). Go to KBB.com and get a Trade-In value, a Private Party Value and the Retail Value. This will give you the three values you need to set a price on your ride. Most times, the dealer will offer you trade-in or LESS for your truck. Most will list the PP value when they sell thier vehicle. If your vehicle can stand to be sold at PP value -$500 it normally doesn't take more than a week to sell your vehicle if it looks good and milage etc is correct.
FYI, they (the dealer) offered $8500 for a '98 paid off Tacoma. I said no way. I sold in one day for $11,750 cash ($350 above blue book) (and did a direct bank transfer so there was no funding issue, heck all I did to sell it was a $14 full service car wash.
I got 3.9% for 63 months from Nissan a bit ago. Not 1.9% but pretty close to free money (my investments have made more than that this year so far, oh wait the did lose a tons a couple years ago)...
If you have a certain price you want for your Frontier, try to sell it for that and do not take lower. if you sell it great, if not, you lose nothing but the energy and whatever minimal investment you make.
Sell the frontier on the open market and bankroll or invest that sum and use it to make the monthly payments on the Titan.
I am not sure I understand your idea. He still owes the bank $11K on the Frontier. How does selling the Frontier and buying the Titan give him no truck payment for 2½ years? Yes he will have $8-$9 K in his pocket but now he has to pay off two trucks?!
I checked out KBB.com and this is what I found for my 2001 Frontier Desert Runner with 46000 miles:
TIV: $9750
PPV: $11500
SRV: $13750
Yeah, I'll try and get the truck sold privately and clear the outstanding loan amount.
I was hoping that being 20 000 units short of their half-year sales target, Nissan, would be ready to deal. Clearing the outstanding amount by paying PPV would have helped the deal along. As NMAC offer the 1.9% APR for 60 months , I thought I'd try my luck on 72 months. Heck, why not?
Who knows, we might still eek out a deal somewhere.
Sorry for the cornfusion. My mistake, I neglected that the original loan was still outstanding. However for a person who has a full plate of payments its a way to get a seat at the table so to speak
You probably already know this but I figured I would put this up for who ever wants to read. Always amazes me to see people take such long loans out on cars. The cars lose their novelty or new car excitement long before you are done paying for them.
