Question First oil change ?

Was just wondering what everyone schedule is on this.I just hit 1,000 miles and planning on getting it changed next week.I have a trip of 2300 miles planned at the end of July .I only dive about 10 miles a day.Should I wait till closer to trip or get it out of there?

There's been much debate over the first oil change, do a search to get more info. Peronally, on the new cars, I'd go by the manufacturer's recommendation. But in your case, you should probably change it before the long trip IMO.

I changed at 1,000, then started regular 3,000 mile intervals following that. The oil has come out clean both times. I'd suggest you knock it out at your earliest convenience.

Changed the oil at 800 miles. Looked pretty good. Have just over 2,000 miles now and will be taking a 3,000 to 3,500 mile trip at the end of July. Will probaly change oil again before AND after the trip. Will also change both differentials fluid after the trip. Already changed the fluid in the rear and topped off the front. But hey, thats just worry wort/ over prepared me.

Ya know....I saw on a car&driver show one time that you really only need to change your oil every 5k-6k miles. They say every 3k just to get you into the shop more frequently. Kinda like them dentists me thinks.

I could be totally wrong about this cause I am by no means an engine/oil expert.

check the oil analysis in the first post in this thread:

Titan loves Mobil 1 0W-40

There are a couple of things to note:

1. There is alot of breakin crap in the oil at about 1,000 miles

2. The OEM oil is devoid of moly & boron

I think that these two factors motivate for an early first oil change

Ditto what LT. Sammy says. In addition I would change the diff. fluid, transfer case, and transmission fluid.
