E-Lock vs std limited slip

What exactly does the e-lock do for you and how effective is it compared to standard limited slip? I'm still looking for an SE 4x4 CC, but can't find one with the OR package...do I really need the OR package?? The only OR package feature that's not "bolt-on" is the e-lock (as long as I get BT).

The rear e-locker is 100% effective - just like an ARB air locker. You're either locked or open.

Once locked, there is no differential movement between the two rear wheels - if either wheel has traction, the truck is going to move.

Austin, do you think it's worth holding out for the OR package? Seems $900 is a bargain for everything you get! My other option was to get a truck w/ the BT package and slap 285/70/17 BFG AT's, which would run about $900.

Depends how much you offroad. The E-locker is a hell of a thing to live without in sand and other sloppy surfaces. Remember, you get the skid plate, fog lights, tow hooks, lower rear-end gearing (cancelled if you also have BT, that comes with the lower gears too), and the "off road" logos on the front doors.

The only downside is those 17" wheels (don't mean to offend, just personal preference; sorry guys). The tires are more aggressive too. If you buy the bolt-ons by themselves, its ... approx.
$150 for fogs,
$250 skid plate,
$50 tow hooks,
$25 stickers,
$ ?? Tires
$ ?? change rear-end gears parts and labor

Edit: Thanks, the RAncho shocks.. those ought to cost a few hundred too...

Thats already almost $800 without considering the different tires and gear change costs.
You are probably well over $1500 and are installing the fogs, hooks, skid plate, and decals yourself. This is already done obviously when you get the OR package at time of sale. I wish I had it!!!!!!
Did I miss any parts?

If I had it to do all over again, I'd get the E-locker for sure, combined with the ABLS, shocks, and gears, you can handle anything. $900 bucks is nothing to pay for the benefits.

GoFast33, I don't do as much off-roading as I used to, but for the occasional time that I need the locking differential, it will pay for itself. Not having to jack up your truck while in a big mudhole has its benefits. I have to agree with everyone else...it is a bargain compared to aftermarket. The whole truck is a bargain when you consider standard features and technology.
Hey, My RF hasn't faded once (fingers crossed), although I kind of expected a little better sounding system.
Everyone complains that they paid $1400 for the stereo, but you have to consider the Power Captains chairs (if you got them) and the center console. The bucket seats in my 1992 Silverado were a $900 option in 1992, and they weren't power seats.
Just be happy with the choices you make. I spent over 4 months researching trucks...there is not a better value, no matter what options you get...So, get what you want, and enjoy!
